Note: Certain events in this story, while referred to as being long in the past and not graphically violent, might still be unusually rough for some to hear about; if you start to get a troubling vibe, I recommend bouncing out and waiting for others to test the waters. Or you can always message me for some light spoiler action...

P.S. Campfire Radio Theater had me back recently for a role in their latest opulently and lovingly produced radio play, “Final Resting Place.”
P.P.S. Below, get an eyeful of a few sample cards from a game that can only be referred to as Knifepoint Horror Fluxx. Gamers might know Fluxx as a simple and chaotic card game that has spawned many, many sequels sporting various themes, including Star Trek Fluxx, Monty Python Fluxx, Zombie Fluxx… and anyone can now freely download a card deck based on “original” Fluxx but dedicated to imagery, characters, and locations from the Knifepoint Horror stories. Even if you’re not into Fluxx, this set, created just for fun by friend of the podcast Parrot-in-Human-Suit, is fascinating to look through and pretty much spans the podcast's entire run.

Utburd! I didn't know about that one. Just read up on it. Gahhhhhhh!
Jamie G Hardy
Late in posting this b/c waiting to find the book at a decent price at my favorite used book site but (and I'm sure the answer will probably be yes) perchance did you read any of the Time/Life Enchanted World series, specifically the Ghosts edition (which drew much more from folklore than, say, Hans Holzer books)? After hearing this tale, I recalled a small tale at the beginning of a chapter in regards to the visitation of an utburd, the spirit of an infant usually left to die of exposure if the family couldn't support another child at the time. The ghost would grow and engorge itself with rage & need for revenge. According to the book, it could grow to the size of a cowshed, yet invade its mothers' bedroom as a wisp of smoke, before unleashing its full strength and devastating the killing parents house and lives. If you still have a copy, it begins on pg 39. This book drove me to find the Funk & Wagnalls Folklore Dictionary when I was 12, reading about the Ankou of Brittany, France. This, and the illustrations of Stephen Gamell in Scary Stories... were more horrifying to me than the entire Friday the 13th or Elm St series. But a YA book contain Bosch & Breugel images tend to do that. If you don't have a copy or lost yours, it's a must to own for any horror or ghost fan.

This happens to me. It's loud and jarring. Otherwise it's something I fall asleep to. Traces is awesome but the volume does sharply increase at that point. Enough to wake a person up if they're still listening.

I wouldn't hesitate buying that app!
Soren Narnia
Sadly, the iPhone app that wakes you up with those lines was poorly reviewed. Probably not worth $14.99.
Hannah My Falk
Also, my husband always falls asleep to Traces and every damn time he wakes up at "I don't wanna do this anymore! I wanna go home! ...what is that? What iiiiis that?!"
Hannah My Falk
Fell asleep to your voice as I often do (very calming), but woke up to the last three sentences. Absolutely horrific! And wonderful ♥️

Another wonderfully controlled story. What I love about your stories Soren is that, in a genre where there is so much revelling in suffering for its own sake, they have such a strong sense of compassion. I feel better for then
Soren Narnia
Heard of the movie but never saw it!
Ryan Weiler
Hey Soren! I was just wondering if this story was by any chance at least somewhat inspired by an older movie called "The Way of the Gun"? It was one of my favorites when I was in high school.. It was about two unsavory guys who kidnap the surrogate mother for an oil exec to extort him.. I'm sure there are other movies with a similar plot but I thought it might just be a cool coincidence. Anyway, loved the episode!

Danny needs to get the noisy zipper
Mechelle
Just a bit in the 11/08/22 story. Anyway, thanks.

😂

I know, I can’t believe Dracula has a huge moustache in the new movie either!
Lisa
Holy shit.

I’m eternally fascinated and ever grateful u exist since I listened to town like so long ago. The way this has grown is dope. Killer man so killer
Soren Narnia
Nope… is there a sound-alike roaming the streets?
Mechelle
This is off topic, but were you a guest on the podcast You’re not Meant to Know?

Wow! This is so different than other KPH stories. I really enjoyed the narrator’s voice and perspective. The idea of just being swallowed up and blinked away is so frightening. Incredible as always Soren, and happy new year!
Mechelle
This was such a wild story to listen to. The weakest people can survive the worst scenarios. For better or not.
Firelink Shrine
Wow! This story was amazing. Definitely pulled at my heart strings. Mr. Narnia, it is going to be hard to top this one! Excellent work, sir!
Benjamin Grace
Happy new year sir! This story made me tear up at work, thank you 😭
John Holowach
What a terribly sad story. 💙
Lori K.
Considering the heart theme, maybe Soren will do it for us for Valentine’s Day ❤️nothing says “I care” like a story about stalking then murdering a helpless old man in his bed.
HPCringecraft
Happy fifth year of 2020 everyone

That was a real punch in the gut, in the best way. I hope it was the good in Will that saved him.

All fiction should be like a sticky dark brown paste!

This one is quite "Marmite". Thanks for the story
Jason Cournoyer
Brilliant story. Loved Danny's pathetic, half-hearted attempts to save himself with the fence and "moat." How many times did you have to read that "quit cryin and start proTECtin" line before it sounded vile enough?
Mike M.
A new tale AND a New Years present? You spoil us, sir. Going to save the story for my too-early drive to work. The cards are great too. Scrolling by through all the stories and parts of text is so nostalgic having listened to KPH so long and the Goals purposes are very creative.

Seeing TTTH in person when I was in middle school made me want to be a writer.
Alain Kapel
Having heard the story now, have to say it was fantastic; both the current timeline and the main character's reminiscing of the past were told seamlessly. I was left unsettled at the end, but also kind of... Sad I guess? Like some unavoidable divine retribution took place, and it wouldn't have to if Danny had at least shown some empathy. But as we know people like that can't help themselves, unfortunately. So yeah, it's another KPH winner and a great start to 2025. 🍻
Soren Narnia
(frantically googles what year this is)

Happy New Year Soren! 😊🎉
Jill E Merrill
Also what with hospital lights being so bright, it makes total sense. Darkness coming out of the birth canal, light in the hospital room, void entering death. That never occurred to me.
Jill E Merrill
Brilliant concept.
Alex Lenz
What a fantastic story, really felt the sorrow in the MCs heart. You really out did yourself, great work
Lori K.
I’ll second that!
Soren Narnia
An early favorite of mine!
Ryan Fahey
Wow, that was great. I imagine that what the narrator experienced (void, followed by a brief flash of light, after which the experience was over) is what the child experienced in 3 seconds of life.

Officially putting in a request for Soren to narrate The Tell-Tale Heart for a Patreon extra.

Well, that was dark, wasn’t it?
Soren Narnia
I think I may be able to fix that tonight….

Is anybody else not getting the podcast feed updated?

Taking the opportunity to say the Campfire Radio appearance was great
Jamie G Hardy
Thanx. I've become too dependent on this thing cos it's portable and I don't use my laptop like I used to except to read pdfs or moving data to ext drives. I'll shift the rar over there sometime today. Thanks again. Been relistening to your catalog, esp the nightcreep/surreal tales (moonkeeper/town/house/sideswipe/impound/proof).

Yipppeee New Story!!!
Lori K.
Great story, Soren! Tragic what can happen when you meet the wrong person; a slight Telltale Heart vibe for me, with those three words…Chilling!
Soren Narnia
I checked it out on my PC by downloading the whole folder. I think most PC art/photo apps will open .tif files easy enough but mobile might be unpredictable?
Jamie G Hardy
Slight off-topic of the story but...how does one SEE these fluxx cards? I'm unfamiliar with tif files and wondering if I can convert to jpg or use another app cos my mobile's gallery doesn't support it. Downloaded the game but it didn't give me a chance to load the set.

"Ring out the false, ring in the true." - Tennyson Happy New Year & many thanks for a wicked 2024😈

Honoured to be the first to comment and listen to this new KPH tale, lying here in a Covid-induced stupor. Happy f’en New Year ;) pardon my French. Thanks for the story, Soren.

Soren your the GOAT!! You know how to make a great start to 2025... Happy New Year 🎉

Aw yis you didn't keep us waiting long in 2025! Happy new year Soren 🎉
