It reclaims the language of weddings—dresses, vows, veils—not in celebration of romantic partnership, but of healing. Born from a dismissal of my desire for commitment, this series became a ceremony for my own becoming.
Each portrait is a vow made in real time, to the version of me that stood in that place. Together, they form a record of choosing myself—over and over—not in spite of rejection, but because I finally saw myself as worthy.
This is not about loneliness. It’s about devotion. The sacred kind. The kind that starts at home.

Concept This conceptual self-portrait series follows a year-long healing journey through the metaphor of self-marriage. Inspired by a conversation in which a long-term partner dismissed the idea of marriage, the artist turns inward—photographing herself in different wedding dresses across rural settings that reflect emotional seasons. Each image is paired with a vow written to herself at that stage of healing. The project reclaims commitment, celebrates autonomy, and honors the sacred act of choosing yourself.

Photograph 5–6 wedding dress portraits, each representing a phase of emotional healing

When I first saw your post without reading it I thought Sue Sylvester in glee. After reading I disregarded that thought and believe it's a great concept.
