DSS Improvement #1 - Characters

There are several things that need to be significantly improved before DSS is officially released.
The first of these are the characters. Many people expressed the opinion that it would be nice to have the ability to add custom characters.
Accordingly, the function to import custom VRM will eventually be added to the official version, and a separate test program was previously created and distributed.
However, in order to do this, it is necessary to change the format of the VRM file currently being used for development.
Currently I am using VRM 0.x version files, but I need to change them to VRM 1.0 format.
Simply put, the code related to character implementation must be modified to adapt to the changing format. I am currently working on this and it will take some time.
The reason for changing the VRM format is that version 1.0 is easier to load and is updated to match the latest format.
Anyway, if this feature is added to DSS, you will be able to import a female, a male, or something other than human, and freely adjust the weight, voice, and movement.
The problem is that you may have difficulty obtaining or loading the VRM file.
I will later create a guide video for creating and loading a VRM file optimized for DSS.
Perhaps if you have an FBX file for that model, you can convert it to a VRM file.
Since the characters that users can import will all have different heights and body types, features will be added that will allow you to fine-tune the location and size of devices and equipment when applied.
And just like with the previously introduced VRM importer, collision detection will be customizable to suit your character. Additionally, the character's body movements will be implemented so that they can show different movements depending on their personality and type, so please look forward to it!
But there are also limitations. For example, VRM files do not have their own tongue bones.
The basic characters of DSS can be used by loading and applying the tongue model that I prepared separately, but this will ultimately be made to be suitable for the basic characters. Therefore, this part is inconvenient as the user may have to prepare a separate tongue modeling and make adjustments within DSS.
I've used the tongue as an example, but please keep in mind that these inconveniences are likely to occur with other custom elements as well.
Additionally, the updates described above ultimately place the burden of requiring users to learn complex character import methods. I will try my best to make it as friendly as possible.
Because there were plans to change the character format, there was no update for a long time regarding the character's emotional expression, which was one of the elements that many people were looking forward to. This is because most scripts for characters have to be rewritten from scratch.
Characters will use a more advanced emotional system depending on their surroundings or when placed in special situations.
The character's facial expressions when faced with emotions can be freely changed while the user prepares the VRM file, and a guide regarding this will also be produced.
I've organized the contents, but I think it will seem complicated because there is so much to convey.
On the other hand, I think that once these features are completed, DSS will undoubtedly become an even more powerful tool! As always, I will show you the results, so I would appreciate it if you could trust and wait.
First of all, we talked about the characters. After I'm done with this, I'll talk about the system, physics, and story, in that order.
There are many things that change in these areas and there is a lot of information to talk about, so I will tell you about them step by step!

you're right. I plan to make the tongue I provide by default so that it can be modified, so in most cases, users will just have to adjust the values carefully. However, if the user's character has a different painting style or a very different face shape, the user will probably need to prepare separately.

As a programmer, I have a quick suggestion I believe is a good solution for the tongue issue. So instead of having the mod creator fine tune the value in game. What about let the game holds a parameter (say, between 0~1) which passes to the model and move the tongue accordingly. So the creator only need to tune the tongue bones between the two values, instead of have to go into the game. This will allow them to make the tongue with less limits. However I'm not an expert in bone animations so I just talking from the code side.
