It's as Titus says. We are born small, weak, and helpless. We're cursed with natural predators called... "Parents". That's why the grandparents were created: to protect us! Oh sure, they're old and frail... But they can kick your dad's ass!

Oh how the changing tables turn. This should be interesting. That said I think maybe a part of why Jack is so curious is in part because something is a bit lacking. There's a look of genuine caring with Brook and his dad which doesn't feel present with Jack and his. If I had to guess I'd say Jack's dad was a bit more like Brook but maybe felt smothered and has tried not to be that but has gone a bit too far the other direction.
