He trembled—not with fear, but awe. “You’re… incredible.”
She smirked, guiding his hand to her bicep. “Touch me.”
He did, his fingers tracing the valleys between her muscles. She shuddered, the sensation magnified—every brush of his skin against hers like a live wire.
“The necklace,” he breathed, staring at the rubies. “It… changed you?”
“We’re not done yet,” she whispered, pulling him closer. The stones flared, her muscles rippling in anticipation. “Want to watch it happen again?”
Later, they’d talk. Later, they’d question the rubies’ magic, the vendor’s intent.
But now, Jake’s lips were on her collarbone, his hands exploring the topography of her back. Now, Mara’s claws raked the headboard as the rubies reignited, her body surging even larger, even stronger, at the sound of his encouragement.
