A Simple Change of Mind - Chapter 4
🕑 Added 2023-09-01 23:20:33 +0000 UTCA/N:- Sorry for the awfully long wait; it was my mistake, and I have nothing else to blame. Here are the two chapters I promised, combined at 15000+ words. Although only the patrons of Dragon Tier can read Chapter 5 for now. After this, you don't have to worry; my schedule is set, and I will upload the next chapter in 4 days. And in between that, I will also do the polls and prompt suggestions for my first short story and one-shot.

As soon as he felt the ground beneath him, Harry stumbled and barely stopped himself from falling on his face.
"Stupid, shit portkey, they always hate me." Harry cursed as he brushed himself clean.
Once he was upright, ignoring Sirius snickering, he looked around and found them standing on a street in front of a row of big old townhouses, which was something he found very strange. Why would Blacks build their house in a muggle townhouse?
He asked Sirius the same and received a snort and a shake of the head.
"Harry, as much as Black hated muggles, they were very smart too. House Black has always been very feared for their power in magic and in politics, but with fear came many enemies, so to be safe from them, they decided to build their house in between the very same people everyone knows they hate." Sirius explained it to him.
Harry had to admit it was smart thinking, but he should have expected something like this from a family as cunning as the Blacks. It was a strategic move to blend in with the muggle townhouse, ensuring their safety and keeping their enemies at bay. It also allowed them to remain hidden in plain sight, their true power concealed behind the facade of an ordinary muggle residence.
Despite his initial surprise, Harry was starting to understand the complexity and shrewdness of the Black family's actions. but there was still one thing that had him confused.
"But where is the number 12? There is nothing between 11 and 13." Harry asked Sirius.
Sirius chuckled, "You can't see it right now, but you will now." He tapped Harry on his shoulder, and Harry felt the same feeling he did in Bulgaria and saw house no. 12 emerge between 11 and 13.
Harry was once again surprised by the wonder of magic. He sensed a familiar magical power and asked Sirius, "Goblin Wards."
Sirius nodded. "Yes, I had hired them to ward this house as well."
"But are you sure, Sirius? What if someone powerful got a sniff that you were hiding here? They could easily overpower the wards if they are not strong enough." Harry asked in concern.
Sirius rolled his eyes at his godson's overprotection. "Why don't you sense the wards around and check for yourself?" he challenged.
Harry closed his eyes, focusing his magical senses around the house. As he delved into the invisible web of protection surrounding them, he felt a deep hum resonating through his veins. His brows furrowed as he concentrated harder, trying to identify any weaknesses in the wards around the house.
He was glad he had picked ancient runes for his third-year selective and not listened to Ron's lazy reasoning to join divination. Runes was something that came very easily to him; he could definitely say that after defence and transfiguration, Runes was his best subject. And after further tutelage under Alexandra, who was a rune master too, he has become more efficient in sensing the wards.
He can sense the wide variety of wards around the house, and as he spreads his arms around, he could even touch them. After doing a full check for his satisfaction, Harry had to admit that goblins may be a bunch of dickheads, but they were the best in the business for a reason.
He opened his eyes and saw Sirius looking at him with a raised eyebrow and an expression that clearly asked him, "So?"
Harry sighed and nodded. "You were right; the wards are very strong and complicated to break." Seeing the smug smirk on Sirius face, he continued, "But you can't blame me for being concerned for you."
Sirius face softened. "I know Harry, but you have to start trusting me." he said firmly.
"With your own safety, I would never trust you," Harry snorted, "knowing how reckless you are."
"OI!!" Sirius exclaimed, feigning offence. "I may be reckless, but I've kept myself out of trouble for quite some time now." He hesitated for a moment before added, "Well... mostly, but my point still stands."
Both looked at each other and started laughing, just enjoying their normal banter, which both would miss now.
After he composed himself, Sirius put his hand on Harry's shoulder, and as he looked him in the eyes, it hit him that Harry was now taller than him, something that filled him with many conflicting emotions of joy, pride, guilt, and regret, but he putted it aside for now.
"It seems like it's time for you to say goodbye to your dashing godfather until we meet again soon." Sirius said it playfully but with a deep, hidden sadness in his voice.
"It is, but I don't know who you are calling dashing, you old man." Harry playfully returned with a small smile.
Sirius chuckled. "You are never going to stop calling me old, are you?"
"Nope" Harry replied, smirking at him.
"Thought so." Sirius sighed and shaked his head. "Well, anyway, I was going to say, as a responsible godf-"
"You are responsible?" Harry asked cheekily.
Sirius huffed and, with a stern voice, said, "Will you please let me finish?"
At Harry's nod, he continued, "What I was going to say was that this last month with you has been one of the best days of my life, Harry. After spending 15 years in Azkaban, being with you even for just one month has pulled me out of a very dark place. I know I wasn't there for you for the last 15 years, but I promise you that from now on you will always have me by your side, even when you are in school. I will be just one floo call or a letter away."
Harry looked at Sirius with tear-filled eyes and a grateful smile. He pulled him in a hug and whispered softly, "Sirius, this last month has been the best time of my life; being with you made me feel what having a family feels like, so it should be me who should thank you. Thank you very much for having the change of mind and taking me out for this wonderful experience."
Sirus pulled after several minutes of holding each other, wiped his eyes, and humorously said, "Now let's not start crying in the middle of a street." Harry laughed, nodding in agreement.
"Tell me, have you packed your mirror?" Sirius asked him.
Harry nodded. "Don't worry, I have."
He was surprised and amazed to see the mirror when Sirius first showed it to him. To even think that some Hogwarts student actually made a magical device capable of having a face-to-face call was mind-boggling. He had been trying to find out how his father and his friends had made it without Sirius's help, but he had been unsuccessful.
"Alright, then it's time for you to go. We have been standing here for quite a while now," Sirius said as he looked around the empty street. "Do you know how to apparate to the Weasleys?" he asked him.
Harry rolled his eyes and said exasperatedly, "Of course I do. Or did you forget that you were the one who taught me?"
Sirius held his arm up. "I know, I know; I was just making sure." He then continued in a serious tone, "Don't forget you are not supposed to learn how to apparate until your 6th year, and you don't have a legal licence either, so be careful."
Harry just nodded, and with a last hug, he disappeared with an almost silent pop.
Sirius cursed and whined, "How is he already so good at that?" Shaking his head, he took a deep breath and opened the gate of the house he had hated his whole life.
With the same almost silent pop, Harry appeared at the burrows. He opened his eyes and looked at the unique, magical house. Smelling the familiar smell of Molly's cooking in the air, he made his way towards the house and knocked on the front door.
Only a few seconds later, the door was opened, and before he could even say anything, he was pulled into a rib-breaking hug by Molly with a shout of "HARRY!" ringing in his ears.
Harry chuckled and wrapped his arm around the short woman. "Lovely to meet you too, Mrs. Weasley," he warmly said to the woman who had always welcomed him to her house with open arms.
Molly pulled away from the hug, put her arms on her hips, and said, "How many times have I told you to call me Molly?"
"So many times," Harry cheekily replied. Molly huffed but couldn't hide the smile from her face.
She then held him at arm's length. "Now let me take a look at you." She said and looked at him from head to toe, as if she were scanning him. "Merlin, Harry, you shot out like a weed. You are almost as tall as Ron now, but you are still a bit thin, dear. But don't worry, I will take care of that."
Harry shaked his head fondly at Molly's routine comment. Even if I became fat, I would still be thin in her eyes. Fortunately, he was saved from further inspection by a feminine voice.
“Will you let the poor guy breathe? Harry has not even stepped in the house.”
Harry looked at the speaker and saw Ginny standing on the stairs with her arms crossed. He winked and waved at her, which she returned.
Molly huffed, "Harry, don't mind it." She then looked at him and asked, “Do you, dear?”
Harry shook his head and said, "Of course not, Molly.”
“See.” Molly shot a smug look at Ginny, who just rolled her eyes.
"Now I am making the lunch, so Harry, dear, you should put your stuff at Ron’s rooms where you will be staying, and Ginny will help you,” she said and went into the kitchen.
Ginny wrapped her arms around his chest and hugged him. “Hey Harry,” she cheerfully said.
Harry chuckled and returned her hug, “Hello Ginny.”
She pulled back and looked up at him with a frown. “Mom was right; you are so damn tall now.” She touched and pocked him on his arms and chest. “And your body feels like hard rock; what have you been eating this summer?" she exasperatedly asked.
Harry smirked and shrugged. "Nothing special; I've just been doing some intense exercise daily. But enough about me; it looks like I am not the only one who has grown this summer." He said while wiggling his eyebrow at her.
Ginny put her hand on her hips in a pose and asked, “You think so?"
He did, even though she was still short and petite; she was curvier than before, her face looked more mature, and her hair was brighter red now.
Harry nodded. "I really do; you have changed from the cute blushing girl to a hot fire cracker.”
Ginny snorted and hit his chest. "Really! a hot fire cracker, you can do better than that.” She then pulled him towards the stairs. “Come on, let's get your bag in Ron's room before Mom comes back to annoy us.”
As they were climbing the stairs, Harry leaned in and whispered teasingly in her ears, "I am sure Luna gives you much better compliments than that.”
Ginny’s eyes widened, and she put her hand on his mouth, shutting it. She dragged him to Ron’s room and locked the door quickly.
She pulled her hand away and hissed at Harry, "Harry, you can't say that where mom can hear you.”
“You still haven't told Molly about you and Luna?" Harry exclaimed.
"No, I have not.” She said it irritably. She took a deep breath and continued, "Harry, look, it's not as easy as you think it is.”
“Then make me understand why, Ginny, because I don't see why it is so hard."
“Because just coming out and telling my mom that I like girls and that I am dating the girl who she thinks is only a friend to me is not easy. Especially telling her that her stupid fantasy of me marrying you won't come true.” She said with her voice mixed with anger and frustration.
Harry sighed and took a minute to see from her point of view, and he found that she was right; it really is quite hard for her to come out and tell her family about it. Even he was surprised when she first told him about it, since he had always thought she had a big crush on him.
His eyes softened, and he gently wrapped his arms around her and hugged her, softly rubbing his arms on her back until her tense muscles relaxed and she melted into his embrace.
"I'm sorry,” Harry whispered in her hair.
"It's okay; I am not angry at you but at myself,” Ginny quietly said.
“Don't be angry at yourself; there is nothing wrong with being afraid at some point in life. Just because we are Gryffindors doesn't mean we can be courageous all the time.” Harry wisely said from his own experience in life.
Ginny smiled and held her tears at bay. “Thank you, Harry. You have always been there for me when I needed you. I haven't even told my brothers yet, not knowing how they would react, but I never feared telling you.” She said gratefully, tightening her arms around him.
Harry smiled and replied, "Well, if you want, you can consider me a brother.”
Ginny pinched his arse and strongly said, “No! I have enough brothers already; you are my best friend, not a brother.”
"I thought Luna was your best friend." Harry teased her.
"Well, you know that she is more than just a friend now." He could clearly hear the smile in her voice.
Harry sighed and dramatically said, "Alright, I guess I will take the best friend title then.”
Which they were and had been since her first year after the Chamber of Secrets episode. Harry had made sure that Ginny did not feel bad about what happened that year. He was always there for Ginny to talk about her experience and for any help she needed.
And it was something Ginny really appreciated because, after her horrible first year, she didn't have any friends except Luna. Harry made sure she forgot her horrible experience and helped her make her life easier.
Their friendship was something that helped both. Harry got a friend who he could spend time with and talk about things he could not with Ron and Hermione, and Ginny got a friend whom she could fully trust and tell anything she wanted.
That was why Harry was the first person she came out to. He would never forget that moment from the previous year. Just remembering that memory always makes him laugh.
Ginny, feeling his chest rumble in laughter, looked up at him and asked, “Why are you laughing?” She raised an eyebrow.
Harry chuckled. “just remembered the time you told me you like girls.”
Ginny groaned and hid her face in his chest and murmured, "You're never going to let that go, are you?”
Harry snorted, “Absolutely not. How could I forget the time when you came up to me and asked?" He then mimicked Ginny's voice. “‘Harry I want you to kiss me’ and before I could even say anything, you kissed me and said, 'Hmm, I was right, I do like girls only.' Do you know how confused I was?”
"Oh, don't be a baby; it was just a simple kiss.” Ginny huffed; her face full of blushing red.
Harry exclaimed, “Just a simple kiss?!! Ginny, you stole my first kiss; I felt molested.”
Ginny rolled her eyes. "You are overreacting now; I just wanted to confirm if I like boys or not.”
Harry raised an eyebrow and asked, “So you kissed me to check it?”
“Of course, I did. You are the only boy I have ever had feelings for, so I had to check if I felt something kissing you,” she replied.
Harry pulled back and looked at her. “So did you?” he softly asked.
Ginny averted her eyes, but he could see a red hue on her cheeks. "I did a little bit, but not as much as I did when I kissed Luna; when I kissed her, I knew I loved her.” she said with a fond smile as she remembered the time when she kissed Luna.
She then looked at him and asked, “Did you felt anything?”
Harry shrugged, “You are a beautiful girl, Ginny, so of course I did, but I always knew you and Luna loved each other before you even told me, so I was not hurt or anything; I was more flabbergasted that you just kissed me.”
Ginny chuckled, “Thank you. I was so angry at myself after that. I hated that I used you like that, but you never took it the wrong way. “
Harry waved it away. “What a friend would I be if I let a stupid thing like that ruin our friendship?” he said with a smile.
Ginny returned the smile and hugged him again, “And that's why you are my best friend.”
A thought came into her mind, and she looked at him with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes, which Harry knew very well.
"What?" Harry asked warily.
"Oh, nothing. Ginny shrugged. "I was just thinking that I recently found out I am not the only one with a crush on you.”
“What do you mean?"
Ginny smirked. "Well, in one of mine and Luna's night stays, I found out Luna also had a crush on you, and we shared our fantasies. Do you want to know which one was our biggest one?”
Harry's heart was racing. “Which one?”

Harry gasped in shock. "Wait, you're telling me you, Hermione Granger, still have not finished her homework."
Hermione huffed and slapped his arm. “What's that supposed to mean? There is still one month left; I am not late.” She said it defensively, but a doubtful look appeared on her face. “Am I?” she asked.
Harry laughed at her change of expression and said, "Hermione, I was just kidding. Don't worry, you're not late.”
Hermione tried to look annoyed but failed, and she smiled, shaking her head.
“Have you finished yours?” She asked back.
Harry nodded. "Yup, I already finished it in the first week of the break,” he proudly said.
Hermione gave him a genuine smile. "Harry, that's amazing. I am so proud of you. At least you are serious about homework, unlike Ron, who has still not even started,” she said exasperatedly, throwing her hand in the air.
Ginny, seeing the direction the conversation was going, interrupted them, “You two can continue this at the dinner table, so let's go; I am starving.”
She then led the way down the stairs, with Harry and Hermione following her. Harry looked at Hermione, who was in front of him, and noticed the changes his friend had gone through.

“Where are Ron, Fred, and George?” he asked.
Molly sneered, "Oh, those three are playing outside. I have already told them to come eat, but when do they even listen to me?" She said it frustratingly.
Right at that moment, the back door opened, and in walked the three people they were taking about.
"Mom, I am so hungry; please give me the food,” Ron whined as he walked in. Ginny and Hermione rolled their eyes at him, while Harry tried not to laugh.
Molly, with her hands on her hips and eyebrows twitching, said, “You came 30 minutes late, and the first thing you asked for was food? You can’t even see that Harry is here?” She asked with barely contained anger.
“Harry is here,” Run said excitedly. He ignored his mother's anger and looked behind her to see Harry waving at him. He then ran to greet his friend.
Both friends patted each other's backs, and Ron asked, “When did you come here, mate?”
“Just 10 minutes ago,” Harry smiled, “what were you playing?”
Before Ron could answer, he was pushed by the twins, who hugged Harry at the same time and sandwiched him.
“Harrykins-“

“Our dear champion seeker." they both said together.
Harry chuckled at the usual twin-sync talk. “Absolutely fantastic, what about you two?”
"ENOUGH!” Molly shouted, cutting off whatever the twins were going to say.
She pointed towards the twin and Ron and growled, “You three have already made us wait long enough, so shut your mouth, sit down at your seat, and start eating before I take your food away."
She then turned to Harry and this time softly said, “And Harry, dear, please eat your lunch before it gets cold; I have made all your favourites.”
He nodded and sat down, and everyone began eating. As Harry enjoyed the tasty dishes and answered his friend’s questions, he realised that even though he would miss Sirius and Maria, he was going to enjoy his remaining holiday with his friends.

Growing up, she never had a friend because of her attitude, something she was aware of. She knew she was bossy and might act like a know-it-all, but that was because of her childhood, when no one wanted to be her friend since she was too smart and intelligent for them.
From then on, she had always tried to impress her teachers for their attention so as not to feel alone. But it was something that pushed kids away more from her.
Even at Hogwarts, she carried the same attitude after failing to make a single friend. She had hoped that at a magical place where she would be among people like her, she would finally make friends, but soon she realised that magical or not, teens are always the same.
But then came Harry Potter into her life, who, on the night of Halloween in her first year, saved her from her death by fighting a troll ten times bigger than him. That night, Hermione thought she was going to die, but not only was she saved, but she also made her first and best friend in Harry.
Hermione used to hate romance novels in which the girl is saved by a hero and falls in love with him. She always thought how impractical and impossible that was in real life. But after Harry saved her that night, she developed a big crush on him.
With Harry, she felt herself change; she became less bossy and tried to be less of a know-it-all in classes. She started making friends with other girls, not only from her own house but from other houses too. All the while, her feelings for Harry kept becoming deeper.
Even though she had been in love with him since her first year, Hermione never tried to find out if Harry returned her feelings or not.
