Happy Halloween!
It was a seemingly uneventful month here… up until the West Coast megastorm showed up and knocked down a tree and flooding our property, taking out our power, phone and internet! All is well now, but there's still a huge mess to clean up. I know a few of you guys are also in the Northern CA area… everybody good? I’m also seeing news that the East Coast may be experiencing a similar event at this very moment. To our East Coast friends - hang in there and try to stay dry!
In other news, it's always fun to see your graphics out in the real world... I just cued up the new Justin Bieber movie to see if they're still using the opening logo animations I created - they are! This was a project from a few years ago - I created the reveals for Bieber and SB Films (Scooter Braun, the quintessential "celebrity manager"). Bieber was very insulated - I never met with him in person - but his feedback was courteous and reasonable and left me with a nice impression. His manager, on the other hand...
In any case, just for fun, I posted up the graphics here:
The finished SB Films logo is still fun for me to watch - I designed the basic animation in After Effects, then painted each frame using watercolors on 11x17 paper. Scanned them, inverted the colors and added just a little glow and grain.
In Texturelabs news, some new stuff out of the lab this month, which I hope will prove useful!

Awesome… thank you for supporting the project! Ah ya, I do find those blend-if settings all the time. But they can be a little bit tricky, especially when the layer you’re referencing for the blend (this layer or underlying layers) isn’t something with flat lighting. I think the most I’ve gotten into it in a tutorial is the Texture and Grunge Basic vid… but it’s definitely not too in depth, just the basics! I’ll keep in mind to get a little bit more into the details in the future. Thanks for the post! Cheers, Brady
Awesome stuff as usual. So much value for very little cost. I really appreciate all your videos, they have up'ed my game massively. I notice you use the blending mode technique a lot in your workflow. It's something I struggle with a bit, do you have a video showing more how to control the grey/underlying versus this layer etc ? If not maybe a future quicky technique vid? Thanks again!!
