It is important to always get the latch correct! This is how I was able to get my older daughter with a shallow latch able to properly breast-feed and still maintain a decent milk supply for her.
My nipple was cracked and split open and healing so feedings are painful during these times and proper breastfeeding techniques are good to learn in order to continue your breastfeeding routine. Milk supply is based on supply and demand so if you stop feeding during these times your milk may dry up or you might lose a lot of your supply.
This advice will help you continue to feed with less or no pain even with a cracked nipple. Always speak with your obstetrician or lactation specialist if you’re still in pain to help find ways to safely alleviate discomfort and wether or not you should continue to breastfeed or pump during these struggles.
In my opinion it is best to continue if possible due to the many health benefits and strong immune systems breastfeeding builds for our children.
