UPDATE - Death in the family

Midnight Sunday/Monday Morning, my dog and loyal companion suffered a massive seizure. I thought he was going to be OK after he showed signs of recovery a few hours but then he started suffering minor seizures. These lasted throughout Monday and up to Tuesday morning.
I had to make what might quite possibly be the hardest decision ever in my life to say goodbye and put him to sleep. I am heartbroken and destroyed by this.
My dog Ryder was 16 years old. I was only 14 years old when I first got him, and today, I am a grown 30 year old man. So I had this dog for more than half of my life. Yesterday was so tough, as it was the first time I felt like a teenager in an adult's body. I don't know how to describe that feeling except that it is painful.
I didn't lose a pet. I lost a family member. A dog shows such unconditional love. When you have an argument with someone, they don't always forgive you, but a dog will forgive you and let something go.
I didn't want to have to make this post. I've been calling it off for a day, but figured I might as well push myself to do it now.
I am not going to quit writing. Now I need this mental escape more than ever to at least lessen the pain.
To my best friend, thank you for giving me 16 years. I love and miss you.
