The question for whom I feel more bad for dying is something I want to avoid. On the one hand Shizuka wears a blank white shirt which reflects light. Marina on the other hand wears a black love sweater that absorbs light. Marina gets abused and her mother calls it love hence the love sweater. Shizuka gets neglected to a societal scale so she detaches herself from the world. Marina's speech to Shizuka: You lost something. How does it feel?, You do not have caring parents or friends!, Nobody cares about you!, Why don't you just die? All this is really revealing. Marina herself comes to such a conclusion due to her own experience. And although Marina has friends herself it does not feel like they are there for her but for bullying and surviving reasons. So Marina does not have real friends with whom she can share her troubles. And same as Shizuka: nobody truly cares about her. Why were those 9-year old children alone on the streets? Marina asks Shizuka this question. But Marina herself is on the street at this time alone aswell. Yes ultimately the people helped her with the dog but that is because of preventing themselves from being harmed in the future. What I want to say: Nobody truly asks what happened and why they are alone on the streets. If you love somebody and care about somebody you want to understand their feelings and situation as good as possible. The only reason Marina does not say to herself to kill herself is due to her still existent parents. So it is really interesting to speculate on what would have happened if Shizuka died and Marina keeps living in her household. My guess is that she would live a terrible life with her unstable mother and would never get the love that she seeks and transports her trauma into society. And there is the tragedy of taking charge for your life: Shizuka is neglected and gave up on taking control over her life. Marina lost her family life and wants to take charge and getting control over the things that happened and neither of them will achieve what they want because they are kids in an environment that does not truly care and love them and the cause of their problems does not lie in the scope of action of children! But they both blame each other for their misery. Marina especially but also Shizuka. Shizuka being happy after Marina dying makes sense but also has implications. Both of them have a lot in common and can't see the true root of their problems.
