Kuro, here! For the past eight years, I’ve been writing 5YL Episodes 13 & 14 in random places whenever inspiration had struck me. At the bottom of various (often irrelevant) Word Documents, DMs to myself, physical notebooks, iPhone notes, etc. Yesterday, I spent the entire day compiling everything I’ve ever written for those two episodes. The scripts are just about done!
But going back through dozens of old documents, I’ve found countless alternate scripts and entirely cut concepts that I found interesting. Here’s a peek at some of them. Perhaps I’ll share more if ya’ll also find these interesting.
1. VLAD’S HISTORY
This is part of an alternative draft taking place in Episode 10 when Clockwork and Paradox inform the rest of The Heroes about how dangerous Vlad really is. I kinda like this version more than the final, but this was written at the bottom of Chapter 3’s Document, so I probably just forgot about it when it came time to write Chapter 10. It mentions the Observes, Clockwork’s eyeball servants from the series, along with directly mentioning Vlad’s ties to the Sojourn Cult, though that may have been too confusing as that’s a “background plotline” for the series that really didn’t need the focus. I’m still satisfied with what I wrote in the finished episode, though had I remembered this version existed, I probably would’ve gone with it instead.
2. FULL STOP & DANNY
This is a deleted concept from Episode 11, before we finalized The Void on the Powerhouse Playlist and how his powers could work. Rather than Vlad forcing Danny into a Dark Matter Sphere and accidentally evolving into Fury Danny, Danny would willingly absorb some of Full Stop’s energy to intentionally power himself up more. It would still go wrong and result in Fury Danny, and the events would play out the same. I remember running into a lot of problems with this version. I couldn’t find a good spot for it in the story, and it also felt very anticlimactic. Plus we already had Danny willingly absorb energy at the start of Episode 10 with Vlad's sword, so him doing it a second time wasn't nearly as interesting as having Vlad force him to do it against his will. When Ash created The Void, we shifted the idea into what it is now. I do love this dialogue exchange they have, but unlike the previous segment with Vlad, I’m glad we changed this.
3. THE SQUAD & FUTURE FENTON
Another alternative scene from Episode 11. This one doesn’t have much reasoning behind the changes, it just needed tighter dialogue. This version is pretty sloppy, but it’s still neat to compare with the final.
4. THE VOID TALKS
This one also doesn’t have much backstory, but I forgot that we once experimented with The Void talking. I’m glad we moved away from it. The Void is more horrifying if he can’t speak. We also claimed he had Anti-Matter rather than Dark Matter, but personally, they’re interchangeable to me. I know there is a difference between the two, but when dealing with reality-altering blobs of goo, I don’t really care what it’s called. I also cut Vlad's reaction because we already did that joke with Swampfire in Episode 1.
5. DIVINITY’S SPEECH
This one is kind of a spoiler, because I still may salvage some of this for Episodes 13 & 14. But this would’ve happened in Chapter 12 when Divinity was egging on Ben to use Alien X one final time. I liked it, but it was too long and redundant. Plus Divinity has given plenty of speeches before and I didn’t wanna break up the pacing too much. This was also before we settled on the name “Divinity”, so we still called him Eon in the script.

That Divinity speech goes hard! Would love for that to be in the story!

Really sounds like The Void was a saving grace for pacing and hesitance to do power absorbing for the second time.
