Pt. I & II of “Explosive James Yoo Exposé” are coming in hot. We embark on a forensic recreation of the controlled house detonation to own the spies in Arlington—retracing the remarkable, int’l espionage history that culminated in this former head of security for Global Crossing & erstwhile military info systems specialist going out in a blaze of glory. Or maybe not…We’re breaking down the saga of James Yoo’s parents; their lives as Korean expats in DC; connection to future Korean Pres Kim Dae Jung, who KCIA tried to assassinate twice; James’s Mom’s career as a VOA broadcaster (cover for covert activities?); his Prof Dad’s studies at spook school The American Uni & anticommunist dissertation; his role in a pro-dem Korean exile protest mvmt in DC that attracted surveillance from the Embassy & KCIA intel chief; their connections to the Unification Church & Grandmaster Jhoon Rhee, who taught Taekwondo to 100s of US politicians, Bruce Lee, Muhammad Ali, & even Chuck Norris; James Yoo singing “Desperado” at Langley HS’s Senior Talent Show in the ‘80s; WACL’s sisterly relationship w/ the Moonies; the possibility some of Rev. Moon’s “race war” prognostications may have influenced James’s deep set paranoia & belief he was being gang stalked by white supremacist deep state actors; his assertion that his Mom was assassinated in retaliation for his parents’ involvement in the dovish, DJ-led lib unification faction; we triangulate how the Virginian suburbs in which James grew up & spent his final years are Moonie strongholds; we unpack how he and children of Rev. Moon & Colonel Bo Hi Pak went to the same alma mater mere years apart; which brings us to a recent embezzlement scandal against a Moonie who served as treasurer of the Korean Cultural & Freedom Foundation (UC proxy Col. Park set up in collab w/ GM Rhee) & more recently comptroller of the Moonie-run Kirov ballet academy in DC.
All in all, this is one of my fav investigations & we’re not even close to finished. Huge kudos to Alisa Mahjoub (grew up UC) & Fergal Shmudlach (“The Kingless Generation” pod) for sharing their immensely valuable insight & knowledge and spelunking this cavernous rabbit hole w/ me.
