How about a device to launch thermite pellets covered in flash power through the focal point of a laser beam to ignite them on the fly? Combine your love of chemistry and lasers to burn bigger holes in stronger things! It might be a bit dangerous, though. This would probably be worse than anything Saddam was working on when the US invaded to look for WMD. I just checked, and Colin Furze did make a thermite launcher, but it did not have laser ignition, so there's that. Maybe the high voltage could be used for propulsion.
