In the Police Bureau Hospital, the officer guarding Daxiong went to the stairwell and dialed a number: "Hey hey, yes, yes, we have an injured suspect from our detention center. Yeah, it fell on my head, I brought him out to see a doctor, but didn't expect the hospital to be so busy. We've been waiting all evening, and no one's attending to us. Right, could you make a call for me then. Okay okay, I'll wait by the surgery department on the second floor... Alright, thanks Old Wang, I'll visit you during New Year!"
After hanging up, the officer guarding Daxiong pushed the door back to the corridor, grumbling: "One phone call means another gift to give during New Year."
"Well, if they can get us done early, that's better than anything," his colleague sitting next to Daxiong replied.
The officer bent down to sit and turned to ask Daxiong: "Since you're injured, I should call your family to notify them. Can your family members come to see you?"
Although Daxiong was intellectually disabled, his thoughts were very delicate. He reacted slowly, at most just needing more time for his brain to consider things, so it wasn't hard to guess the other's meaning.
The four officers had been dragged around with him all day. The other party obviously wanted some compensation for their trouble. With New Year approaching, if family came, they certainly couldn't come empty-handed.
Daxiong understood this meaning but still lowered his head and replied: "...I... I don't have... anyone at home willing to care about me."
Hearing this, the officer immediately sneered and cursed: "Looking like this, no one at home to care for you, and being stupid as hell, once the sentence comes down and you're transferred to a regular prison, you'll definitely be tormented to death sooner or later."
Others might not feel much hearing these words, but after hearing them, Daxiong's whole body shuddered, his eyes full of terror.
What was it like in prison? Would it be even harder to survive than the current detention center? Daxiong was truly scared, his face pale, his gaze unsettled.
The officer didn't pay any more attention to him and turned to chat with his colleagues.
About five minutes later, a young doctor hurriedly came down and asked the officer concisely: "Director Wang's friend?"
"Yes, yes," the officer immediately stood up. "We brought a suspect for medical treatment."
"Where is he injured?" the young doctor asked.
"Eyes, nasal bone, possibly ribs too..."
"With the explosive fire, the ophthalmology department is also very busy," the young doctor briefly examined Daxiong's injuries and immediately said: "Come, come, let's find a place first, I'll take care of him, doesn't look too serious."
"Good, good." The officer immediately called out: "Let's go, quickly!"
Normally, this being the Police Bureau Hospital, even for medical treatment, Daxiong would have to go through an iron door and receive treatment in the inner clinic. But today's situation was special - the upstairs clinics were full, and all with serious offenders involved in explosives trafficking and illegal manufacture of explosive materials, so the young doctor took everyone to his office area. This area didn't require going through iron doors and was no different from ordinary hospital clinics.
After entering the room, the young doctor turned and asked: "What's his crime?"
"Murder," the officer replied.
"Murder?!" The young doctor was taken aback.
"He's intellectually disabled, it was accidental homicide. Someone hit him, he swung a hammer once, had bad luck and killed the person," the officer explained. "Nothing serious, won't get too heavy a sentence."
Hearing this, the young doctor relaxed a bit and pointed to the bed, saying: "Take off his chains, I'll examine him first. He'll need to use equipment later, needs to go to orthopedics and ophthalmology."
This situation happened occasionally. Whenever suspects needed CT scans or such, they had to have their chains removed for treatment, so the officer bent down with the key and unlocked Daxiong's chains, but didn't remove them completely, leaving one foot still chained.
"Hold it yourself, don't let it damage the floor," the young doctor instructed.
"Ah!" Daxiong nodded, holding the chains with his left hand, and bent down to sit on the reclining chair.
While the young doctor examined Daxiong's injuries, the other four officers went to wait at the door.
About fifteen minutes later, after washing Daxiong's eyes, the young doctor called back: "Nothing wrong with his eyes, just bloodshot from being hit. Some anti-inflammatory medicine and two shots will do. But his ribs hurt, he needs to go to orthopedics for a CT scan to check for fractures."
"Still need a CT scan?" the officer asked.
"Of course we need one! Go get the paperwork done," the young doctor replied.
"Damn it, I didn't even take such good care of my father when he was dying..." the officer cursed but had to take the forms and run to the orthopedics department.
"Watch him, I'm going upstairs for a bit," the young doctor was also very busy, and seeing that Daxiong was fine, turned and left the clinic.
Daxiong sat in the reclining chair and suddenly noticed that due to the time, the people in the corridor had decreased, and only three officers remained at the door.
Suppression, despair, confusion, fear, and even resentful negative emotions all rushed into Daxiong's brain almost as soon as he saw the situation outside.
Before entering the hospital, Daxiong hadn't had any thoughts of crossing the line. He was even thinking about how to face those who had beaten him when he returned to detention. But at this moment, his thoughts changed uncontrollably.
It seemed like he could escape!
If he escaped, he wouldn't have to face those suspects, guards, and officers who bullied him every day.
If he escaped, he wouldn't have to be sentenced and go to that prison others spoke of as even worse and more terrifying.
If he escaped, perhaps he could still have a full meal on New Year's Eve, see the brilliant fireworks outside...
Even if he died, it seemed like it would be acceptable, perhaps it would even be fucking liberating!
In an instant, just an instant, these thoughts rapidly broke through all the burdens and rationality in Daxiong's mind. He looked down at the chains on his legs and, as if possessed, called out: "Brother... Brother Guo... my... my ribs hurt... they hurt so much!"
At the door, an officer who was talking with his colleague turned his head at the shout: "You were just fine, why are they hurting again?"
"This... this... hurts!" Daxiong pointed at his ribs and called out, face up.
"Nothing but trouble all day!" Officer Guo stepped into the room and bent down in front of Daxiong: "Move your hand, let me see what's wrong."
"Bang!!!"
Daxiong suddenly exploded into action, punching the officer in the face. His physical strength was so great that the officer, a full head shorter than him, fell to the ground with a thud.
After the man fell, Daxiong had already stepped forward and grabbed a medical glass bottle from the cabinet, smashing it down like a basketball dunk.
"Crash, shatter!"
The glass bottle shattered on the officer's head, and he immediately lost consciousness.
Daxiong's thinking was very clear. He immediately bent down and pulled the leg iron key from the officer's waist.
The events of these two or three seconds clearly caught the other two officers at the door off guard. One of them reacted and immediately reached for his gun: "He's trying to escape!"
"Bang!"
Daxiong grabbed an iron chair from the room and threw it directly.
The two men at the door instinctively stepped back to dodge.
Daxiong, like a bear, rushed out of the clinic in two steps. At the door, the officer on the left reached to grab his arm, but as Daxiong ran forward, he used his body's momentum to throw the other to the ground.
Just as the other one drew his gun, Daxiong grabbed his collar and threw him. The man's body actually spun half-airborne around Daxiong before being thrown to the ground.
"Bang!"
Daxiong pushed open the stairwell door and rushed in, taking half a flight of stairs in two steps to reach the window.
The clinic windows earlier faced the street and had anti-theft iron bars, but this side of the stairwell didn't, because its location wasn't inside the upstairs iron door.
Daxiong pushed open the window, nimbly climbed up, and jumped without hesitation.
Landing below, Daxiong seemed to see nothing, had no complex thoughts in his mind, only ran with all his might.
......
At the Yu family home, Su Tianyu called out to An Qiqi: "Happy New Year!"
"Happy New Year to you too, Dog Six," An Qiqi replied cheerfully.
"???" Su Tianyu looked at her sideways: "I feel your way of addressing me is quite disrespectful! Has it been a long time since I checked your mammary glands?"
"Get lost! Isn't that what everyone calls you?"
