MindMeltingMachine, update and possible plans
🕑 Added 2016-06-30 15:56:12 +0000 UTC First an update what I'm working on: This week I made sure that I can compile for the GearVR. It works very well and it's nearly as immersive as the Oculus Rift. Only problem is that I cannot easily distribute the built app. This is because Oculus and/or Samsung decided that they want GearVR apps only on their Oculus Store. So, to run the app on the GearVR without the store I needed to include a special file into the app that is bound to my Smartphone hardware device id. So, if I want to distribute a GearVR app I would need all my customers to give me their hardware id so I can build it into the app. I am not completely sure how I can tackle that problem in the future. I have a similar problem when I want to support Cardboard on iOS. I don't have a solution yet and I just might not support these platforms for final sessions....The rest of the time I worked on subliminals. I can now show pictures andtext subliminals in the subjects view. I can configure speed and number of subliminals and the pictures are read from a folder inside the app. I don't have a clear theme so I refrain from releasing another technical test version this week. The subliminals would be just random.
Now to the possible plans. I could use your thoughts on this.
I also am reevaluating how this project will go forward in the future. My original plan was to create sessions alone and release them. I never intended to make it configurable for anyone. But feedback here and on reddit and even tumblr shows that there is a high demand for that. People already ask how to put voice sessions or text scripts into the current version. Well, so far you can't. But I understand that people want that and I don't know why I shouldn't give you these things if I can make them. But I'll have to see what features I can actually give you. I'm not sure how I can go about these features, will I create a GUI for that? Will it be part of the Unity App that plays the session or should there be a Session Creator Tool that writes a set of files and the MMM(=MindMeltingMachine) could be pointed to the file(s), parse them and play the session? If so, what platforms would the session creation tool run on?
Of course I could still make and create my own sessions. They would be much more customized as I can work from within the project. I could create special sessions and experiences while others would need to work with a more generalized set of features.
So, would you buy a "MindMeltingMachine - Hypnotists Edition"? You would have a tool to create sessions, choosing subliminals, text, audio track and binaural beats. With increasing version there will probably be more features to use. I might even be able to release the MindMeltingMachine player for these "generic sessions" to stores for iOS, Oculus Rift, GearVR, etc. while the session creation tool could be available on windows and mac stores.
Would you still buy highly customized sessions made by me, some by myself, others maybe in collaboration with experienced hypnotists from the community?

I'm not sure if this will help any...but Sideload VR is what some developers are using to build apps for gear vr. It sort of bypasses their system as long as you can build the right file or something like that. I'm not really sure how it works but maybe it could help
Thanks for your feedback. I'll keep in mind that such a tool needs to run on linux one way or another. :) And of course patrons will get access to these things. This is just a public post, that's why I put it like that. :)

Wow, that's a lot. I, for one, definitely want to be able to import my own scripts and a tool to ease that would be great. And I would like a GUI tool for that. While I love my command line utilities, something like that is not ideal for the CLI. While doing this on my phone or tablet would be nice, I'm a lot more comfortable working on my laptop. Incidentally, I'm a Linux user and a native app would be the way to go but, if not, it needs to run flawlessly under WINE or it's a no-sale; and, yes, I probably would pay for a separate script developer application. Another option, of course, is to utilize the in-app-purchases feature (of Android, dunno about iOS) to sell both your own scripts and maybe open it up for others; a sort of microstore. As a Patreon supporter, though, I would expect to gain access to all of that with my patronage. Or change the model and make a Kickstarter for the app(s) and patronage, via Patreon, for scripts? Anyway, ALL of this is a rather large departure from the core product and, for now, that's probably where your focus should be. :)
