Dancing with the wind

The metal was cool where it met her skin, the morning's chill having not had time to be chased away. On the horizon the pastel processional of dawn was beginning and she could feel the wind caressing the fur of her cheeks and ears.
With care she stood, taking up the thin, gauzy scarf the wind wore on fine mornings like these. Care had been gathering about her and weighing her down and when the world lay heavy on her she took to the roof. She'd lost the sky years before when she'd lost her arms and legs and while artifice could let her walk and work again it could not bring her to flight.
Her clever craft had made her almost whole again and as she unfurled the thin fabric and watched it billow a smile tugged at the edges of her beak. Now she would dance with the wind she loved as it had never forgotten her. Turning in slow careful circles on the roof the wind rolled in across the salt sea to greet her.
Dip and sway and flex and bend, the wind caressed her as a lover. Dip and sway and flex and twirl, and she would have no other.
