Just to add to the mention of Blackadder goes forth, all the Blackadders are British comedy gold and should be on your list. If you haven't come across them they star Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Laurie (House), Tony Robinson and Stephen Fry is in occasional episodes too. First series also has Brian Blessed
