It took five seasons, but what a perfect time for Touko and Shigeru backstory! Seriously, seeing the "other side" with these two was so heartfelt, so endearing, and has given me so much thought for future seasons -- also, the challenge of not crying in this series is getting harder and harder!
I officially want a spinoff of these two! Can we have that, please?

I have wanted Shigeru and Touko focus for FIVE SEASONS and didn't think it was even possible -- but yes, Natsume's Book of Friends - the series that challenges: "What will make you cry?!" And goes to INSANE lengths to test the limits of that - now we have umbrella stands! Shigeru is SUCH a catch, seriously, and the way he prepared for Natsume? LIVING. And yes, Touko is the most innocent lamb. It's so heartbreaking to see Natsume from the POV of everyone else (humans and yokai) before coming to the Fujiwara's and realizing just how LOST he was. T-T It's just -- it's never drilled in but just...confirmed, and it makes me so sad every time! Yeah, sometimes, what we DON'T see is actually for the best in this...though, seeing Touko and Shigeru stand up for Natsume...there is some validation I would crave in seeing that. This episode was SO wonderful and NEEDED for this series - thank you for the comment and kind words! I can't believe how much Season 5 has SPOILED us! And we still have the finale!

Loved the reaction and discussion! Yessss, finally some more Shigeru and Toko focus! 🥰 Also I reached a new low (high?) – crying over an umbrella stand. 😆 More and more Toko is an actual angel, yes. And I love that Shigeru was the one who started nesting first! 😆 Seeing Natsume from a slightly distanced perspective is somehow even more troubling. I think this has been paced so well because we’ve seen these types of moments from multiple perspectives now – Natsume, yokai and then e.g. someone like Yuriko. All those perspectives were quite close and now we got Shigeru who did not interact with Natsume in that moment at the funeral. We only see Natsume’s back and we know exactly what’s going on and it is devastating. 😭 “I wanna see that! Or… I probably don’t want to see that, actually” < this was so relatable. Wanting to see those moments so I know exactly who to get angry at on Natsume’s behalf but also just wanting them all to not have happened in the first place. 😭 Looking forward to next week! 💙
