I definitely can see the idea that they “love,” but it’s maybe not directed romantically and I definitely think they were shocked at how BLUNT Phos was with their statement of love. And I like that reflection on Yellow Diamond as well! Thank you so much for that and the comment! 😀

I feel like the gems have a concept of love, just not in a romantic way. Except maybe Dia for some reason lol. Yellow and Rutile were probably just shocked at how earnest Phos was cause they’re all a bit tsundere. My interpretation was always that Yellow seems to be the oldest and most jaded (or at least experiences a sort of survivor’s guilt), so being reminded of a reason to fight by their younger sibling and that all their lost partners fought for that same reason inspires them and makes them smile.
