i thought the same thing while drawing penny! both have organgy tones, are bald and shiny, don't wear any clothes and have long lashes. looks like it really might be the sneakers giving him an advantage!

this is very cute, and totally on-brand for gumball. he really has a type doesn't he? no pants, no shirt, extra appendages, bald. if penny really wanted to compete with darwin she would need to start wearing sneakers. (panel 3 without the text boxes, the shading on pennys torso matches her own expression XD, it is also my favorite panel in the comic.)
