Hi Keith, His circuit is good. It is an oscillator circuit that makes AC from DC. I don't think it is 30k though, more like around 5 to 10k because he has to bring the wire too close to start an arc.

I thought transformers only worked on AC circuits. Is any part of this video possible? I apologize if my ignorance is showing. Electricity isn't my strong point.

Then there were the mobile/cellphone stickers you put under the battery to boost the signal, remember those? They were screen printed with 100% chinesium alloy in a pattern 'scientifically proven' to boost signal in dead spots. Worked like a charm, considering the objective was to part fools from their money!

There was a commercial product on the market a few years ago which was foil coated card, you put this on your antenna similar to to coke can. It worked really well at boosting seller profits, killed your wi-fi signal though.

I'm not sure the router uses a simple monopole design. It is more probable they use a compact dipole design.

A thought on the coke can from a (very novice) ham radio operator - If it has any measurable effect, it will almost certainly be a weak shield serving to reduce noise (and signal) from one side of the antenna. It won't increase a signal, but it may (slightly!) help to reject unwanted emissions from a neighbor. Oooor it will just attract roaches because you didn't clean the sugar off well enough....
