A curse by the Lords of Chaos after they were delivered a humiliating defeat by Wonder Woman. So they curse her home and all who visit and live on the island to be transformed.

Could also be a trick, they are blessed by Athena a goddess of war and wisdom. However what would happen if they switched to Hera goddess of marriage and Aphrodite goddess of love.
