ASMR Fun with My 3Dio Mic
🕑 Added 2024-01-30 02:15:01 +0000 UTCHello! Heyyyy! My January goal is complete: to jump into ASMR with my 3Dio mic! I learned a lot while filming but also editing.
I realize that I need to cross the XLR cables because when I whisper into the left ear microphone, you'll hear me in your right ear. I think I'm pretty good at annunciating, but there are still times I breathe too much air directly into the mic. This was export at +0dB (no volume adjustment), but I make sure my other projects were at that tried and true ASMR setting.
Ideally, I need a better space to record acute sounds, but my living room carpet has always been my favorite workspace. I wanted something comfortable that would motivate me to just start making content.
For today's practice, I did not adjust the nodules on the interface while recording. I kept the settings as is and played around with being near and far from the mic.
I'll document my settings...
- GarageBand for sound recording, FCP X for video editing.
- Recorded using XLR cables and in the Stereo setting. Headphones are directly connected to audio interface. I have an electrical box that can hook up to the audio interface to avoid overworking my laptop, but that's not set up here.
- GarageBand -- I believe the Sample Rate is 440 kHz (as this setting is hard to fine). Bit Depth of 24 (should be 16 or higher). Exported in WAV or AIFF (both recommended) at +0dB (no volume adjustments) on the setting 24 Uncompressed. No editing of vocals in any way.
- FCP X -- No editing of vocals. Although in this particular video, I did no volume adjustments, the next 3 videos I created were exported at -6dB, which is the gold standard for ASMR.

I love videos where you can watch foley artists create sounds. It's even cooler when the action is so different than the intended sound like using your hands to make the sound of a fire or something odd like that. I hope to develop my voice. I feel like I should explore every type of sound because what one person hates is what another person loves. I'm excited to check out those videos -- thank you for linking them!

One of my guilty pleasures I waste way more time on than I need to for nothing other than enjoyment is watching vocal coaches analyse singers. Charismatic Voice is prob my favourite, ThatSingerReacts has more unbridled passion than science but both take such immense joy. https://youtu.be/gGKgklIV7Ko?si=A7UKyz-lP2HEtw5X https://youtu.be/YFH7jOaHm-Y?si=w68e6sQtvkr9iQlr https://youtu.be/g_aXzPsG2wc?si=Pu9DMWT-fzKHgTiQ Never knew there was so much science and technique to making sound. Mouth shape, tongue, air, bracing and so much more, and, who doesn’t want to hear someone say a singer has a gorgeous tongue 🤣. I said it before on one the earlier ASMR that to me it seems near impossible to project your voice quietly, and hold your breath but it’s obviously a skill - keep with and and develop it. Maybe there’s some tips in vocal analysis maybe not, just enjoying watching your journey begin.
