🕑 Added 2022-12-11 18:59:01 +0000 UTCQ.: How has your knowledge of different kinks/fetishes evolved since 2014? Were you already familiar with stuff like BBC, Alpha Males, Cuckolding/NTR, Dom/Sub, BBWs, Body Transformation, Breeding, etc.? Or has it been a learning experience for you?
A.: I grew up in a time when it was pretty difficult to get your hands (er... hand) on adult content. My main choices were magazine and videos — and both of them involved a significant risk of getting caught.
It usually meant finding that small store on the other side of town — where you were unlikely to be recognized. I'd peruse a rack of titles (and titles of racks) ... desperately trying to make a wise purchasing decision while all the blood rushed away from my brain.
Delightful torture.
The magazines
Playboy offered the finest photography by far — and the most beautiful models. The running gag was that men "bought it for the articles," and that may have been true, but I also bought it for the cartoons by masters like Dean Yeagle and Doug Sneyd. However, Playboy could be a bit tame.
Penthouse on the other hand was way more adventurous in its pictorials — sometimes even introducing men into the scenes. And the letters purporting to share the lusty experiences of the mags' readers — Penthouse Forum — was jawdroppingly good erotica. (So much so that it quickly became its own publication... which I eagerly subscribed to once I was living alone.)
Hustler was more hard edged. The pictorials often featured a distinct BDSM flavor. And where Playboy cartoons were graceful and gorgeous, Hustler cartoons were satirical and often downright venomous.
There were more, of course — Juggs, Cheri, Gallery, High Society, Score, Club, and Swank, just to name a few.
And then there was Gent. Unapologetically billed as the "Home of the D-Cups," Gent was a boob man's dream. The models were blissfully top-heavy — and often more attractive than the typical Juggs centerfold. After Playboy and Penthouse, it was icing on the cake. (God, I hope that was icing...)
Oh... and every once in a while, the stars aligned, and one were blessed with forrest p0rn.
The videos
Then there was the neighborhood video store. Blockbuster didn't carry X-rated movies, but the mom-and-pop video store did. (That's how they were able to stay in business.)
Every video store had the same set-up. In the back of the store, off in a corner, was a beaded curtain. It was always a beaded curtain! It must have been a federal statute or something! To this day, every time I walk through a beaded curtain, I have a ... Pavlovian response.
It can make a visit to a Moroccan restaurant very interesting.

But once you got inside... it was a pervert's heaven. Rows and rows and rows of explicit covers, amazing titles, and jaw-dropping taglines. Standard urinal etiquette applied: Reverent silence, four feet of social distance (minimum) and absolutely no eye contact. If you thought it was hard to make a choice at the magazine rack, this was decision-making on an entirely different magnitude.
You'd have to rent at least to other "vanilla" movies so you could slide the X-rated movies between them. As if Curse of the Catwoman just accidentally slid in between Uncle Buck and The Lost Boys — and now you were honor-bound to rent it anyway.
My education
As you might imagine, the result of this was an education that was somewhat spotty. I knew the basics, and — thanks to Penthouse Forum and a few extra-adventurous movie rentals — I knew about some "advanced" stuff like cuckolding and BDSM.
But doing NSFW comics has been an eye opener. I've discovered kinks that I would have never imagined before. Some of them, like Vore, are not to my personal taste. (See what I did there?) Others have been fun to discover — like an entire genre of erotica called Monster Fuckers. Breast Expansion was another. Heck, I discovered I had drawn a Cumflation scene without knowing there was even a word for it.
Like I said, some of the stuff I was somewhat familiar with — like cuckolding. But in trying to push myself as a storyteller, I've been able to write some stuff that really goes to new places. One of those that I'm really happy with has been the consensual cuckolding between Dynasty and Battalion.
I've got some pretty interesting plans for that storyline, and I think it has amazing potential. Because eventually — inevitably — one of Dynasty's bulls are going to succeed. And then there's an entirely new kink (or two) to explore.

I, too, remember the porn room at the mom & pop video store. Actually, theirs had "saloon doors" instead of a beaded curtain. But yes, you always rented one normal film to slap on top of the pornos. :-)

It may mark me as old but I do mourn the passing of Playboy as a print magazine. Yes it was tame but for a young hetero boy or lesbian it was the shallow water that you could enter without being overwhelmed. Penthouse always felt more artistic but still not to hard to navigate. Hustler was the one that your mechanic uncle hid in his garage that your reprobate cousin would pull out to shock you. After that the others ran the gamut between Penthouse and Hustler. But with Print you knew the gradient. The internet for all it's wonders gets very deep very quickly. As for movies, There was of course pay TV channels and trying to spot nipples between squiggly lines. and a fair bit was made of bawdy comedies from Britain in the vein of the Carry On Series. Growing up in Northern Ontario there was Blue Nuit which showed softcore films like Emanuelle on the French channel late Saturday night,
