Universal Splat Map Shader | Release
🕑 Added 2021-07-01 21:05:59 +0000 UTCHey! The time has come to release a new super useful asset for world creating.
This shader is mostly useful to create a good looking terrains with heightmap blending based on a 3D model, not on a Unity's terrain.
It also very useful for models that needs to combine different types of materials naturally (for example, bricks + putty + concrete + etc.)
As an other really cool feature, it supports rain and puddles with some cool ripples. As always, everything is super configurable and can be used in any of your projects.

Universal Splat Map features:
- Up to 4 different PBG materials (Layers)
- Blending based on the heighmaps
- Full PBR setup (Albedo, Normals, Metallic, Ambient Occlusion, Height, Smoothness)
- Cloudiness control (Materials will look better for a cloudy weather)
- Wetness and rain control
- Animated water ripples
- Automatic puddles based on the material's heightmap
- It also includes 12 free premade PBR materials
- Paintable with Polybrush
- You can paint puddles
- You can paint global ambient occlusion
- Perfect solution for VRChat worlds

How to use?
This asset requires the Polybrush plugin to be installed. It's free and available through the Unity Package Manager.
For the correct work your PBR material setup should have a heightmap.
This shader uses vertex colors to store blending data, so your surface should be high-poly enough to paint on it, Obviously, not crazy high-poly, just a little.
Full tutorial of how to use it you can watch on YouTube. The tutorial is really long, but the most things you need to know are at the beginning, so most of the people can skip the rest of the video.

And a short description of the most useful shader features
Blending contrast - controls how the layers blends between each other depending on their heightmap.
Cloudiness - makes a cloudy effect of all the material (actually makes the overall normals power and the smoothness values lower)
Wetness - makes your material wet. Creates puddles on the high values
Rain - adds rain ripples for your wet material and bigger ripples for puddles
Height (In each of the layers) - Basically, remaps the heightmap of your layer. X is the min, lower value and Y is the max, higher value. Very useful property! It also changes the puddles height.
Shader performance
This is a short comparison of this shader VS Unity's Standard shader. As you can see, obviously, it's heavier than Standard, but not even too much, as it includes like 4 layers of a standard PBR setup. I think, that it is more then just a nice performance.

Note: This stats were measured on GTX1080 using a single high-poly plane. for testing.
