More information and usage documentation below
This demon-eye demonstrates the ability to change pupil proportions and a flame-like effect:
You can use layers to simulate the real iris pattern:
With a few layers of star textures you can make this volumetric effect:
Scrolling ahegao? Easy!
Really stylish flame you can make of different noise textures:
This one is my favorite! Few layers of colored reflection textures can give you this shiny colored effect:
Just use your imagination and make anything you want!
Usage notes
To make this shader work correct, your eye MUST be flat.

If your eyes are flat, but still not work correct, try to recalculate their normals, it might help.
Also be sure that there are no blend shapes controls your eyes shape or your eyes normals.
Shader usage documentation
Currently available shader properties (v.1.0.0):
- Outline - this property defines a special effect which can look like a vignette around the iris. It can be offsetted, a special pattern can be applied (Red channel of the pattern texture).
- Iris - here you can control the color scheme of your iris background.
- Background Layers A and B - These are layers where you can apply any texture to your eye. Here you can also control the depth of the layer, it's scale, color and scrolling animation. "Additive" checkbox switches between regular blending mode (using texture's opacity) and additive blending mode (opacity will be ignored and only the brightness of the texture will be used)
- Pupil - this is a procedural generated pupil with a little depth effect. It's proportions can be changed. You can also use a Stroke pattern texture (Green channel will be used) to customize the sides of the pupil. Stroke pattern here can also be scroll-animated to simulate the fire or any other effect. Pupil draws on the top of the Background A and B layers.
- Foreground Layer - just the same universal layer as the Background layers, but draws on the top of the pupil. Can be used for anything, but I found it useful for making cool faked reflections.
- Flares - this are almost the same layers like previously mentioned, but simplified for a single RGB map texture and has no ability of scrolling.
- Other parameters - here you can tweak the Emission power, Saturation and if you're using Standard version of Universal Eyes, you'll always be able to change the Smoothness and Metalness. Since version 1.1.0, you're able to resize and move the eye across the UV in case if you have a custom UV mapping of your eye.
- Fallback to Unlit - here you can specify your regular eye texture ("_MainTex") for the fallback. Basically, this texture will be used with the default unlit shader on your eye if someone blocks your avatar shaders in VRChat.
