<<Previous (5.1.1.1) / Outline
Tim felt a deep longing to return to the happy days of their childhood. He had always wondered what it might have been had he only expressed his love to Steven back when they had been best friends. To have grown up together as an innocent couple would have been wonderful. He smiled as he edited both of their captions to change their ages to 9 years old, figuring that just dipping into single digits would be young enough.
With everything set, he looked up at Steven, who was smiling back at him.
“Is it ready?” Steven asked.
Tim nodded.
“Let’s go,” Steven said, sitting up straight in preparation. “I’m ready to see your proof.”
Tim pressed save, and a popup appeared, asking if he wanted to adjust the rest of their captions to match their new ages better. Deciding that he would prefer them to be essentially ordinary children again, he selected “yes.”
The “initializing changes” bar appeared and began to fill.
“Whoa,” Steven said, seconds later. “I feel funny.”
Tim watched as Steven’s muscular physique began to slim down, making him look more like a freshman. Then, he began to lose inches of height, his facial features softening and rounding out as his head lowered closer to the table. Tim sensed his own perspective descending along with Steven’s. He could feel his clothes becoming looser and saw that Steven now appeared to be a middle school boy wearing his older brother’s clothes.
“Tim, I’m…” Steven started to say but stopped and cleared his throat when he heard how croaky and pubescent his voice had become.
Tim felt himself drop down suddenly as he went through a growth spurt in reverse, leaving him on the other side of puberty. Steven followed him down moments later, letting out a high yelp as he did. Tim’s heels lifted off the floor as his legs shortened, oversized shoes slipping from his feet, pulling his loose socks down to his ankles.
“Oh, God,” Steven said, his voice sounding distinctly childish now. “We’re getting younger?”
“Yep,” Tim said, delighting in his own flute-like voice. “Don’t worry. It’s almost done.”
The changes seemed to accelerate then as they regressed deeper into childhood, looking like they were only barely old enough for junior high, softened features, big eyes, little noses... Tim grinned a gap-toothed smile, as he recognized the face of his childhood best friend appearing before him. The pair of them swam in teenage clothes, which had become comically huge on their young bodies, their toes barely making contact with their clownishly huge shoes.
And then the regressing came to a sudden halt, leaving them a pair of 9-year-olds sitting incongruously in a high school cafeteria.
Then, it was their clothes turn to change, shrinking down in size to fit their smaller bodies, shoes lifting off the floor to slip onto their freshly-socked feet. Then, properly dressed in fitting clothes once more, the phone began its high-pitched whine.
“What is that?” Steven cried as he covered his ears.
Before Tim could answer, they were blinded by a flash of light. A moment of silence was immediately drowned by the sound of the regular din of the cafeteria.
Steven blinked and looked around and then down at himself. “You turned us into little kids!” he said, his young voice filled with a mixture of surprise and awe.
Amused by his friend's confusion, Tim asked, “How does it feel to be nine again?”
“N-nine?” Steven replied, seemingly intimidated by the number. “T-that’s so young!”
“I could’ve gone younger,” Tim said, taking pride in his power and in the restraint he had shown while using it, “but I thought that this would be more than enough to convince you.”
Steven held up his boyish hands and flexed his little fingers. “Yeah,” he said. “You’ve convinced me, alright. Are we staying like this?”
Tim was about to let Steven decide, but his reply was interrupted by one of the school's security guards. “Boys,” he said. “What are you two kids doing in this building?”
What do they do now?
They run. (5.1.1.1.1.1)
They go with the guard.
Tim targets the guard to transform him.
Tim reverts them back to normal.
