[Pokémon Breeder in One Piece] Chapter 337
🕑 Added 2025-01-11 16:00:36 +0000 UTCAlthough Neptune wanted to accompany Otohime to see the competition, he was worried that if both he and Otohime left, Shirahoshi would cry after the match when she couldn't see her family.
After all, Shirahoshi was only a seven-year-old child.
Otohime shared the same concern, so she decided that Neptune would stay behind.
Considering the safety of Pokémon Island, Neptune didn't argue, especially since Otohime had her own Pokémon.
It was a Primarina.
Primarina, a Water and Fairy-type Pokémon, is known as the "Songstress of the Sea." It is one of the starter Pokémon from the Alola region in the Pokémon world.
This Pokémon species is rather unique even among Pokémon.
Primarina fights using its singing abilities. Its battles are its performances, as it can defeat opponents while singing and dancing simultaneously—a Pokémon born for coordination contests.
If its vocal cords or throat used for singing are damaged, it would be devastating for Primarina. Not only would it cause severe psychological trauma, but it would also significantly reduce its combat abilities.
"It seems everything worked out in the end, huh? That wasn't easy."
Dak breathed a sigh of relief as he watched Otohime and Celebi leave.
He had been utterly stunned earlier when Otohime punched Celebi.
Otohime didn't seem like someone who would hit others without reason. Besides, her frail body was so delicate that hitting someone could break her own bones.
Normally, if Otohime hit someone, they would end up compensating her for the injuries she inflicted upon herself.
Given her aversion to pain, it was unlikely that she'd willingly hurt herself by punching someone.
So, Dak quickly deduced it was a misunderstanding, though he was still concerned about whether the fragile Celebi could endure it.
Fortunately, Otohime managed to comfort Celebi with her maternal gentleness. Otherwise, Dak would have had to step in to console the little one to prevent it from spiraling into self-isolation.
"By the way, the quality of the first round of the contest was higher than I expected," Dak commented, turning his attention back to the stage.
He hadn't anticipated such a strong showing from so many contestants.
While their performances might not fully reflect the bond between Coordinators and their Pokémon, the visual effects alone were stunning.
Take the current contestant, for example.
"Mr. Mime, use Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
On stage was a blonde woman from the Yamanaka clan, accompanied by her partner, Mr. Mime.
Mr. Mime clasped its hands and formed seals.
Being a humanoid Pokémon with five fingers, it had the ability to form seals and perform jutsu.
This made Mr. Mime quite special in a world where many Pokémon couldn't use ninja techniques.
Within moments, five Mr. Mime clones appeared and took strategic positions on stage.
"Dazzling Gleam!"
All five Mr. Mime clones used Dazzling Gleam simultaneously.
Since the intensity of each move varied, some beams reached far while others remained close, creating an effect where the dark opera house was filled with radiant, multicolored lights.
It was as if the audience had been transported to a vast, boundless galaxy.
"Wow~!"
Many spectators gasped in amazement.
This contestant scored an impressive 29 points, breaking Shirahoshi's record.
Four or five more contestants followed, scoring between 27 and 29 points. Their coordinated use of skills left even Dak impressed.
Since each performance in the first round lasted less than five minutes, it wasn't long before the round concluded.
Twenty contestants advanced to the second round, with the lowest score being 25—already a respectable score in the Pokémon world's coordination contests.
The second round, officially known as the Elegant Battle Round, involved battles with varying formats depending on the city hosting the contest.
While formats like 3v3 arena battles or 2v2 double battles were possible, this year's contest in Yggdrasil followed a simple 1v1 format. Contestants could only use the Pokémon they had presented in the first round.
The scores from the first round served as the starting points for the second round.
Contestants lost points for taking hits or executing ineffective attacks without elegance. The battle ended when one side either lost all points or had their Pokémon lose combat ability.
However, the points would reset to the initial score for the next match.
This rule was introduced by Perona's judging team and was not found in the Pokémon world. It was designed to give an edge to higher-ranked contestants from the first round, encouraging more creative and dazzling performances in the future.
Compared to the first round, the second round was lackluster.
From Dak's observation, this was due to two main reasons:
Most contestants weren't particularly strong, so the battles lacked the intensity of a competitive tournament.
Many beginner Coordinators hadn't adapted to this innovative battle format, remaining overly cautious to avoid losing points.
As a result, most contestants hesitated to make bold moves, leading to a lack of passion and elegance.
Dak was so bored watching the second round that he almost fell asleep. Even the audience seemed to lose interest.
The final showdown came down to Shirahoshi and the blonde Yamanaka woman.
The outcome was unsurprising—the blonde woman won.
No one expected a seven-year-old girl to defeat an adult in battle.
More importantly, Dak knew that Shirahoshi's simplicity and inexperience couldn't compare to the battle techniques of a Yamanaka ninja.
The Yamanaka clan excelled in mind-based jutsu and interrogation techniques.
Letting Milotic rely on its instincts might have resulted in a better performance than Shirahoshi's commands.
While Shirahoshi shone in the performance aspect, she still had much to learn in battles.
"Congratulations to the winner of this coordination contest, Ms. Yamanaka Mikitsu!"
Amid the cheers of the audience, Tezoro announced the final winner. "Now, let's invite our head judge, Ms. Perona, to present the winner's ribbon!"
"With five ribbons, you'll qualify for the Global Coordination Contest next year!"
As Tezoro's voice trailed off, Perona walked onto the stage holding an ornate gift box. She stood before Yamanaka Mikitsu.
"I hope to see even more dazzling performances in future contests," Perona said, opening the box to reveal a ribbon with a city-themed design.
The ribbon featured a nature-inspired green color and a tree emblem at its center, exuding exquisite craftsmanship.
"Thank you. I'll do my best," Yamanaka Mikitsu said with a bow, her demeanor calm and confident, as though winning was expected.
...
After the contest, Dak unleashed his full Observation Haki to scan his surroundings.
He detected no trace of Mew or Celebi, who had likely taken Guy and Otohime to the first trial.
He estimated it would take at least a month for all the trials to conclude and for them to return.
"Boss."
The voice calling Dak could only belong to one of his daycare companions.
Turning around, he saw Perona walking over with her red umbrella.
"What's up?"
"It's almost time for Tezoro and Stella's wedding. Are you ready?"
"Of course."
'Yikes, I'm sweating bullets!' Dak thought, trying to keep his cool.
The news of their wedding had reached him during the battle tournament, and he'd planned a grand wedding after it ended.
But unforeseen events in the ninja world had delayed him for three months, and upon returning, he was swamped with other matters, nearly forgetting about the wedding entirely.
Fortunately, there was still time to prepare.
"That's good. Don't forget, okay? I've already got my gift ready," Perona said, giving Dak a suspicious look before nodding in approval.
"Don't worry. I'll make sure it's a surprise they'll never forget," Dak replied, scratching his head while brainstorming gift ideas.
Tezoro's greatest love was Stella, followed by his love for being the center of attention. The latter was easy to handle.
Dak could have Morgans publish an announcement in his name, ensuring the news reached the entire pirate world and even the ninja world.
The wedding would be held at Mariejois on the Red Line, a location spacious enough to accommodate over a million people.
Of course, not everyone would attend, as the spotlight would primarily be on the global live broadcast.
The guest list would depend on Tezoro and Stella's preferences, along with invitations from daycare companions to their own friends and family.
The real challenge for Dak was finding the perfect surprise for Stella.
Stella, a woman of almost no desires, had once longed for freedom and Tezoro's companionship.
Now that she had both, what surprise could possibly move her?
