On that subject of paying for something and keeping it (or access to it): is there a way to make it so that if someone bought an item on gumroad you can check and give them access on itch? I'm currently going through my collection and can't seem to find Guard Turtle. it might be in the downloads folder on an older machine and I'd be willing to pay for it again specifically, but I can imagine being in a scenario where I might have had to replace a lot more.

So damn tired of platforms turning their back on sexual content once they get established. We can have gore porn galore and creepo misogynist power fantasies, but everyone freaks out the second bits touch. Hell, just a glimpse of something resembling a vagina gets you struck off Google's regular search results.

AH. I've never had any complaints from a customer who bought products via Gumroad, they've always been very quick to reply to questions I've sent and have always been helpful. THEY don't have a problem with the content I sell; it's the payment processor Stripe that does, who Gumroad have to use in order to move money around. Gumroad are guilty of not keeping people like me informed, but they've always made sure people get what they buy and that the sellers get their cut.

I was wondering when Gumroad would finally bring down the hammer. They announced those changes with next to no notice but seemed to do little to enforce them. Sorry you have to go through the non-sense of dealing with all these platforms and their ever changing rules. :(

It's a shame, JJ, and of course is happening to every artist/writer that makes any sort of adult content, glad that you have options to use but I will say that the correct way of action with Gumroad is to boycott it, not use it or buy anything from them anymore (they're purging everything we'd like to buy anyways) if they want to throw their business down the gutter they must face the consequences.

That's just the same as Patreon, isn't it? A subscription platform? I don't want to make people subscribe to something else. I want to offer products that they only have to pay for ONCE via a digital storefront.

Actually this policy has been enforced by payment processors like Mastercard and Stripe who are being compelled by an evangelical conservative anti-pornography lobby to stop doing business with any platform that allows the sale of pornography. I don't think you can blame this one on the new generation. In fact the reason for these policies is to enforce chaste morals upon the more sex-positive new generation.

It's been my understanding that it goes back to Credit card companies. Visa and Mastercard especially don't want people to use them to buy porn so they enforce SFW Only polices on many online stores on threat of withholding their services. So Gumroad was probably faced with a choice of "lose a lot of money or ALL of your money."

Honestly the "never formally provided notice" part is what gets me. No porn? That's just a business decision from their side, whether you think it's a good one or not. (And it's one that can be pushed via payment processors so it's not even necessarily their sole decision; they may have been in a position of 'we can either allow porn or we can accept payments through Visa but not both'.) But not telling the people you're working with about changes to the contract? THAT can be actionable. Enforcing new rules without ensuring that the rules are actually known first is the sort of thing companies HAVE been sued over. That's just stupid, especially as they obviously need to have contact information for all the people selling stuff through their site anyway.

Yes, but Gumroad never TOLD its users about the policy change. I only found out through word-of-mouth.
