Chad could only shake his head. “Who are you?”
Allie looked at Michelle. “See, this is exactly the problem.” She took off the bandanna, returning her attention to Chad. “We rob banks, Chad. And stage coaches and trains. But it’s hard! You can’t put together a gang when every man thinks he can just take over and run the show!”
Michelle looked at Allie. “But Mommy, isn’t that what we want him to do?”
Allie took a deep breath. “Yes, sweetie, but Chad isn’t the usual half-brained bumpkin we’ve been trying to make do with! He’s a visionary! A real genius at getting into vaults and strongboxes and anything else what has cash in it!” She stepped up to Chad, doubling up the towel to wipe down his wet body with it. “It’s like finding a good husband. When it’s the right man, you won’t mind doing as you’re told.”
“Not my experience with women,” Chad remarked.
“I told you he wouldn’t want to do it,” Michelle pouted.
“He just needs a little convincing!” Allie shot back, before starting to stroke his flanks, running the towel up and down his body like she was shining silver. “I know you might be reluctant to take on women into your gang. But as you might imagine, there are some things a woman can do that a man is just no good for.”
She took the towel away and spread it out on the floor, then settled there herself. Basking in the radiance of the moon like a cat would bathe in the sun.
“I take your meaning,” Chad said, because it was hard to argue he was unconvinced when he was naked and so engorged that the shadow of it fell across Allie’s body. “But I haven’t got a gang. I turned myself in, as I said. Went straight.”

Chad shook his head. “I doubt Jesse James could be anywhere near as persuasive as you.”

“Mich-elle!” Allie cried stridently. “You keep a civil tongue in your mouth now. I’m only doing this to provide for you. I don’t want to catch you doing anything like this until we’ve found you a proper match!”
“Yes, mother.”
Allie looked up at Chad with chagrin in her eyes. “Kids. Sometimes I wish I’d had a boy.”
“Can’t say I share the sentiment,” Chad opined, sinking to his knees, all of him so heatedly ready it might’ve been years since he’d last felt a chill.
