“Can you link me—briefly—to the Spider-Man? Just enough to let him know my intentions. See if he wants to see me later… and if he does, maybe slip his home address into my mind? I don’t want to do anything he disapproves of, I’d just like to show him some appreciation.”
Bob’s lips quirked. He wasn’t much for emotional displays, but he did seem slightly put-off by her request. “Why don’t you just give him a business card?”
“Oh, I never keep around little gidgets like that. And it’s so impersonal. And I’m sure I won’t have time to track him down later, the way Jimmy keeps us working. Just let him know I’m interested.”
“He’s married,” Bob informed her, not unkindly.
“I know. He has that air of mature love, like a well-aged wine. I want to meet her as well. She must be quite a woman to capture his heart.”
Bob set his lips in a thin line. “He… wants to show her off to you?” He sounded suspicious.
Venus beamed. “I have a very trustworthy aura, Bob. People respond to that. Thank you, Bob. Now I think I’ll change into something nice and pamper myself a bit. The man doesn’t deserve to see me looking like such a mess!”

Venus let herself into Peter’s apartment, knowing she was welcome, if not expected. She got drinks from the refrigerator, noticing they didn’t have a refrigerated cocktail cabinet—she would see about getting one delivered—but they did have bowls and nuts and chips, which she set out.

“Knew you’d get it eventually,” Mary Jane said, staring openly at Venus. “Who is she?”
“It’s a long story,” Venus admitted. “Shall we say I met Peter at his ‘other job’?” She winked theatrically. “You know, that emergency on Broadway. Peter was a big help, but you know how society is these days—so secretive—so my associates kept you and all the innocent bystanders from remembering any of it. Sorry!”
“Spy stuff,” Peter sighed. “I might have known.”
“Well, in a manner of speaking,” Venus allowed. “But it’s not very heroic, is it? Accepting your help and then not even letting you remember what a good deed you did? I thought I’d stop by and smooth things over, if we caused you any problems, or simply celebrate your victory, even if you don’t remember it!”
Mary Jane didn’t think this chick needed to wear less than a bath towel to celebrate this victory Peter couldn’t even remember, but she wasn’t one to talk. It did at least look stylish—not that she could think of anything that wouldn’t look chic on this girl.
She nudged Peter in the ribs.
“Look, miss…” he began.
“Venus. You know, like the goddess of love?”
“Or the planet,” Mary Jane retorted. “Peter, isn’t it a gas giant?”
