Maybe one of those weird mirror mazes is cursed. The character sees themselves slowly change each time they run into a mirror OR they see their female version and are trying to run from it in the maze.

People behaving impolite (like stealing Candy, making fun of others in costume, etc.) and get punished by Haloween Spirit. Or maybe going over a graveyard only to be posessed and transformed by a restless soul (maybe from an ancestor/celebrity to whom one paid respect), with lines from the posessed prior like 'If only you would still be alive, then ...'.

Yeah i agree - costume TGs are quite common (similar themed story written for last year's Halloween season). I can definitely write a shorter story like this.
