Margaret Lloyd

She might be flustered by whatever the System told her when her perks cut off. But yeah, not a very plausible performance for a professional politician. Still Alice has gotten some pretty weird error messages which she, and we, gloss over because computer error messages are a thing were used to, and we've accepted the System as computerlike. One of those from God would be pretty disturbing.

Ironwolf

I disagree with both takes: that an immortal is a nuke, and that the princess was acting unbelievably. I suspect the princess class leads the princess to act in a certain way, and that the Princess acting so weirdly is a direct result of Alice cancelling the perk abilities of the princess. If the perk abilities were made in such a way as to manipulate people’s perceptions of the princess, then the princess would have no issues acting candidly. I think the princess, in short, is overly reliant on her perks and her genuine attitude was masked by her perks. That Alice sees the true princess is more of an anomaly than could be expected.

Abborre

I meant that Alice seams like a 12 year old. The Princess is lowering herself to talk at her level. Maybe

It seems to me that physical characteristics are not heavily used to determine age as much as social cues. Not just high levels aging slower, but high charisma would also present a more youthful body. And, humans being humans, I would expect a significant set of perks for organic mages specialized in changing people to appear younger.

Alice isn't a 12 year old, she's 17. In a world, where visual age doesn't always correspond with mental age. Alice is predicted to become the next Immortal. An immortal is this worlds equivalent of a nuke. No, strike that, an Immortal is an even bigger deal than a nuke, because an immortal can have insane utility even outside of battle. I guess, a closer equivalent to an Immortal would be an important Minister or General. Except that they don't need any resources or subordinates, they are just a "one man army". Also, remember that Alice turned off the Princess's perks. So she might be floundering a little bit without the Systems help.

Abborre

Well I haven't seen any serfs. And no serfdom= no feudalism as I understand it. But i imagine other countries have it.

lenkite

My definition fits the dictionary definition. No idea what your definition of feudal fits.

Abborre

Well yes but she is practically speaking to a 12 year old (Alice)... And we seam to disagree on what feudal means

lenkite

Sorry, but it simply doesn't compute, dude. Regardless of Alice's status, no sane Adult Princess who is actually seeking power as opposed to humorously playing around, will seriously ask a teenager who she was just introduced to on her opinion of herself as a [Princess]. It felt utterly artificial like if she was 12 years old and class-less. And as if she is utterly clueless about Etiquette. Not a [Adult Royal] with all the advantages of training and a class. She should have been eaten alive long before she met Alice. And btw, this nation *still* has a feudal system, regardless of post industrial revolution.

Abborre

The heir to the throne must have leveled up their Classes a fair bit before taking over so they have to be active in royal duties and stuff. Its not enough to be competent you have to level to so its probably way the princess is involved.

Abborre

Feudal? This is more post industrial revolution except they have Classes and magic instead of technology. 18/1900? And kingdom does not nessesarily mean that the king has a lot of power. And the church seam to treat Imortals as saints so Alice is essentially real nobility at this point.

Adleiavde

There might be perk to protect yourself from other's perks, but there doesn't seem to be any record of perk that disable other's perks afaik.

Diego Rossi

Probably there is a decent number of people with perks that protect them from being scanned by other people perks. But usually they aren't mage researchers.

Treviisolion

Hmm, well the second princess is ambitious to say the least, brazen seems a more accurate description. I wonder if her mentioning such things is just a sign of her personality, or a sign of the internal state of the royal family. If she were to be against the recolonization effort then I’d be worried that she was planning on using the current discontent towards the king to depose him, but supporting the effort doesn’t really help her there. Anybody that is in favor of the effort probably doesn’t have a major problem with the current king and wouldn’t want to risk destabilizing the effort with a coup attempt, while she wouldn’t gain support from those opposed that may be more willing to shake things up if the current situation in Illvaria doesn’t improve. As such I see three possibilities. 1. She, and likely her siblings have already begun competing at a low-level, with the understanding that if they wait until the king is near his death bed, it may be too late to build the support needed for a serious bid. If so, this probably was just the princess being overeager when presented with a valuable potential support, and was distracted enough by her own internal thoughts when rejected that she made the mistake of asking Ethan so brazenly as well. 2. The royal family has reason to believe the king won’t last long. Perhaps a reason why he seems to be striving for immortality via this recolonization effort as hard as he is. Maybe his level is lower than everyone thinks it is, and he really is only in his 40s, and stress is taking it’s toll early so he only has a decade or two unless he gains a bunch of levels to extend his life. If so, then it would make sense for her to be so proactive in trying to gain support. 3. She didn’t have any actual plans to become the next ruler as her siblings were already in a much better position until she met Alice and realized that with her help, it was not an impossibility, thus explaining her fairly crude attempt at gaining support.

lenkite

Sorry, but this chapter felt completely off and utterly un-realistic. No real feudal Princess would ask that question anyways to someone they just got to know the first time unless she was 12/13 years old.

Callum Rhodes

An interesting thought I just had is that perhaps childhood in this world lasts longer. If your parents live longer then you have longer to learn and mature. Makes sense that Ethan Chides her like a child for jumping the gun. Good chapter.

Will C

Actually, her eyes widened as she considered how Alice could deactivate her father's protective perks so he could be assassinated. Alternatively, if anything happens to the King now, then she has certainly made herself a person of interest.

BeepBoop

"The second [Princess]’s eyes widened slightly" I wonder what her reaction would have been if Alice used display mana to send her a troll popup after blocking the perk

bob barker

thanks for the chapter :)

Evelynn Sylpheaux

Oh, I'm very curious as to what will happen when she sees the artifact Thank you for the chapter😊✨🌺

IDFree

Didn't like the tea party miniarc for some reason. Somehow, it doesn't seem as realistic/convincing as the rest of the story, although I'm not sure, why.

MinE

Wonder if she’ll get an achievement for this. P.s waiting two to three weeks for her system messages is going to be torturous.
