Benjamin Smith

Is it ever possible to NOT be dimensionally-adjacent to the sea of souls? I wouldn't have thought so, but the ability description seems to imply it.

Evelynn Sylpheaux

Oh the Echoes Of The Deep ability seems very nice!

I'd say three should be the Max even with extreme affinity given it gets to x8. Still, this does mean you really want your main essence granting main ability to have three keywords constantly active. Salia's basically does this (and is apparently bottlenecked by her grade), while Miria's four keywords ability seem to only have 2 constantly active, and one more that is often active. That's, huh, not great.

MinE

I missremembered turns out essence produce is limited by a factor of 7 and everything else drops off earlier. I think 4 keywords for an extreme affinity is good, but for anyone without an extreme affinity it seems like 3 keywords is the max in terms of practicality.

MinE

From a comment on ch 64, “ I figure each Keyword approximately doubles whatever the Ability naturally does. It's important to note that it doubles the CURRENT ability: In other words, if you have two keywords active, you double the Ability twice, getting to about 4X power. However, there's a little bit of a softcap on this if you start stacking too many keywords together, so in practice the effect starts to drop off around 7X the natural output of an ability. This also changes a bit based on what the ability is actually doing; doubling is explicitly referring to things like essence generation. If a keyword ability, say, directly improved a Skill or Stat by a grade, it would be subject to different numbers; a bit less, since just tossing seven grades into all of your stats with three keywords would be a little bit wonky as far as multiverse balance went. But as a very general rule of thumb, stacking keywords is good, and for essence generation it's doubling stuff. (also worth noting that extreme affinity can slightly boost this softcap, although not by much).”

mind telling me which chapter it was specified, i tried to check but couldn't find where i got the thought

MinE

Specifically stated that keywords multiply effect of ability by 2 for each active one and the multiply exponentially. Admittedly there was limitations on non essence generating components, so she’ll get as time 7 or 8 times boost at most.

Arkeus

There is no inkinling numbers of keywords are exponential, but if they are it makes the ability much weaker as by design it has trouble activating all its keywords at once. This one, for the price of two other keywords, exchange having three abilities you can adapt to your need for one ability that you can slightly adapt. While the power is instant and works better on low tier world, it's less versatile and it's hard to tell which would be stronger. Having many different ability isn't a jack of all trade case, it's a synergy case imo.

Adleiavde

If i remember well, activating multiples keywords of an ability grants exponential returns on all effects of the ability so having 4 keywords on an ability can be game-changer, especially after they upgrade their abilities. Take her extinguish spell, it'd be boosted by her ability when using death incarnate. The 'death' and 'alteration' keyword would obviously be activated. The 'ocean' keyword too as it's using water based on the ocean of souls. And the 'duality' would probably be activated too so long as she switch frequently. I dont know about you, but I definitely wouldn't want to face her extinguish spell boosted 5 times. Having lots of abilities with few keywords might seems enticing but I guess that would only leave them to become a jack of all trades. On top of that, I think I remember the keyword guide, or maybe it was one of the market's log, telling that more keyword is usually better. Finally, except for the 3skills , the endless hunger of the ocean ability is barely useful (only gives access to absorbtion essence, some bonus achievements, and a small bonus to forming/upgrading keywords abilities). Meanwhile this new one gives access to 2 modes, one defense based and one attack based which allows to be more versatile. Granted, you need to focus for some minutes but i guess that might change as the ability is evolved. I'd say that this overall suits Miria well.

MinE

She's probably going to get a better ability later. I hope she gets a manifestation ability in addition b/c I get specializing in your extreme affinity but missing an essence in your build is messed up. P.s Any essence works with her new ability, so she has a reason to get one just for that.

Arkeus

There is definitely something to be said for having a lot of keyword to boost a single ability further, yeah. The problem being that havng three abilities that cost 1/2 keywords and synergise together for the same essence is more likely to be both stronger than a single one with 4 keywords as well as have much more breadth. Her Absorption ability is fairly good for having 2 keyword as it gives her access to absorption, it gives her access to madness based achievements, and it gives 3 lesser abilities. This one though has double the keyword and seems to only gives access to alteration + a duality mode. Now, the duality mode appears to be slightly stronger than three lesser abilities, though it largely depends on who you got those from. Still, it's a "immediate" boost that doesn't need effort. Likewise you gain access to alteration immediately, rather than needed months and years of baths... Given you can only have ten keyword though, and that she has extreme ability for Alteration, I have a hard time thinking that it's actually worth more than 2 keyword. I guess she had gotten more achievements before getting her absorbtion ability especially as it wasn't the first one, though. But, extreme affinity.

IDFree

That's because having many keywords for a single ability is a double-edged sword. The more keywords used on a single ability, the more it is boosted when they're active, and the boosts are more effective with extreme affinity. So when you have something that really suits you it's pretty smart to double down. It's also been a recurring theme that their "guesses" are almost always spot on, so the "embodying death/life" part must be amazing. I also have a suspicion that several spellcasting systems using a single essence type might be eventually rolled into a single keyword ability, so having more keywords in your favourite essence might be good in general, although having abilities for all essence types is probably equally valid, although a more time intensive option Edit: even if I am wrong about having multiple casting systems in a single keyword ability it's still good to have an ability that generates lots of essence fast, then she won't have problems on worlds without that essence and the other abilities might use less keywords because they don't have to be generating essence

Arkeus

She needs another +3 from bowl for agility to be grade 10 currently, not quite there. Surprised at how much str she got compared to perception huh. Also, surprised she is so positive at the ability considering it uses 4 keywords and is at first glance weaker than her two keywords rune one. Maybe she isn't quite yet in the mindset that the least keyword an ability use for what it does the much stronger it is. I guess she chose to completely ignore her runes, as no progress there in eight years.

Stephen Pearson

Thanks for the chapter! That new keyword ability seems really strong:-)

The Lost Pages

I rather like how the stats were both displayed and how the magic system is layed out. Also, great chapter.

Pride

Thanks for the chapter!
