Yeah, I'm still not sold on the transmigrators' "die young" philosophy, even if I understand where they are coming from.

Stephen Pearson

Thanks for the chapter! :-)

I’m more of the opinion that the person who should be primarily impressing lessons on kids are competent adults trained on how to produce competent adults. Ideally parents would also be these people, or at least willing to work in conjunction with these people, but I have met enough people who have given their kids serious handicaps in life due to their warped views of the world, that I can’t in good faith say parents should have an unequivocal right to determine how to raise their kids barring extreme circumstances like child abuse. Far too many parents naively believe they know best and cause all sorts of problems even if they do have their children’s interests at heart. But yes, Miria’s mom has a very valid point that raising someone to desire adventure is typically not an ethical thing to do, though I suppose my counterpoint would be that the armies that roam the surface don’t ignore their dwelling because they don’t like the dark and as one of 7 shaper-casters, Miria would likely be called upon to defend the city were it under attack. In such a situation, she’ll probably be safest if she has actual combat experience. Meanwhile one of the best ways to discourage a kid from doing something stupid is to give them a taste of all the dumb, boring, and tedious parts of something. Everyone loves to hear stories of slaying dragons. Few love experiencing the pain of hiking with diarrhea because you ate too many of the wrong berry. Though if the grind of their passion doesn’t deter them, it’s likely that nothing short of smothering out their passion will stop a child.

Saw it just anxious anyway

Like, the mom let Miria wear black for years and the big bro get a swordman apprenticeship. She isn't pushing them away from their desires. She just would like her kids to not die super young.

I added in the announcements section to my Patreon so that I could make announcements about future scheduling issues more visible. Based on your comment, I gather this attempt failed? Hmm. I'll think about it some more.

Miria's perspective is a bit distorted since she's an adult pretending to be a child, instead of a real child. IRL, I think the mother's position is quite reasonable. I wouldn't say I 100% agree with it, but I also wouldn't say I fully disagree with it. But I do think her position makes sense.

Is it weird that I totally agree with the mom’s position? Children ARE extremely impressionable. I disagree that they should be given “neutral information” as such, because I’m unconvinced that it exists. However, the people who should be primarily impressing lessons to them ARE their parents. This would actually be pretty messed up IRL.

Glad I was worried over nothing. Great work as always.
