This is a lot of complex exposition for a 5 year old.

Menu is pictures, not words. Since people are children for much longer here. Though Miria is doing a bit of interpretation as well XD.

Thank you for the chapter. Cold suns huh. This seems like an interesting world

DaShoe

That's a good question

How did she read the menu to order fish soup?

Under the assumption that the 1/10 and 1/1000 are from non magical parents there, huh, are not going to be many shapers in the city. Maybe 20 from non magical parents as well as five from shaper families or something. In that case, and if there is a reliable way to test for talents (if there isn't there might not be a single shaper in the city) we can escape the group to meet each others as a weird confluence of shaper apprentices of three in the sam year rather than a couple a decade.

There was a lot we learned from brief history lesson. I initially wondered if some of the knowledge contained within could be wrong, but based on the self-consistency with the major events described and the way it was presented, it seems more likely to be mostly accurate rather than stories made to explain events whose true causes were not understood or lost to time. From that conversation here’s what I have gathered about this world, society, and family. 1. Physics has some fundamental differences here, and not just magic being shoved in on the side. Newton’s 3 Laws probably still apply or at least their approximation as in our world, but anything beyond that sounds unlikely to exist in the same form as in our world. Gravity manipulation seems possible and at a much lower tech level than any clarketech in our universe. Chemistry is not doubt completely different and thus biology and genetics themselves could easily follow different rules than biology on Earth. None of this is likely to be explored much by Miria, but I expect the distinctive physics will have some impact. 2. Miria’s new family and likely society as a whole is remarkably well-educated for being inhabitants of a double-post-apocalyptic world. The first Ortha Empire has not been lost to legend or myth, but was described by someone who viewed them as history. The second Ortha Empire must have had some interest in history and some of that knowledge must have survived amongst their former slaves. Her method of description also points towards there more likely than not being some basic education done among large parts of society. The story was information-rich and moral-poor, which is very different from how most information via stories is passed down in human societies where events are often distilled into lessons about how to avoid the mistakes of our ancestors and learn from their good actions. 3. The trio may have a fourth adventurer joining them as I doubt Johnathon would be pleased by his little sister beating him to the punch of being an adventurer.
