Going back to it, the "throwing away a belief you have held for a long time" requirement still feels weird, especially considering it from a perspective of the native people of the world getting the class. After all, (to relate it to our world's progression of a person) most people become scientists through a process of learning about the world around them, and no throwaway of belief is needed for them. Will admit that that still is useful/ feels fine as a trigger for getting the class, just not being a requirement for getting it, especially the description of "well documented" in a later chap implies its not THAT rare of a class that would be expected of requiring throwing away a long-held belief.

Raven

She is also fifteen. Petsonally I like how she tries to be scientific but it doesn't always work out AND she tries to learn from it. Also I in her situation would be even worse. I would say 'be logical about it' and then I would panic.

tibbish

Gotta hard agree here. Now that she has had this revelation don't take it away from her and make her act like a idiot who doesn't realize she isn't hot shit, that the locals aren't idiots, and is actually pretty ignorant of things in general. Especially since you (the author) said you wanted her to grow as a character.

Obran

Umm, Alice’s thought process is better suited to Philosopher than a Scientist. You might want to look into The Scientific Method i.e. make a hypothesis, perform an experiment, gather data, etc... rather than simply draw conjecture out of thin air. Also remember that correlation does not equal causation

Matt

This was a very exposition heavy chapter. I found myself drifting off and losing focus quite a few times.

Thankfully the confidentiality aspect has been addressed but it should have been done at the beginning of the court not hunting for a skill after all info has been revealed. I see all her data getting leaked and kidnappers/assassins coming after her in the hundreds soon enough. I guess there will be a [Empire Slave] arc planned. *sigh*. “break my contract with Lady Alice” Just Alice since in a feudal system, Lady is used only for nobles. “While dimensional magic cannot be allowed to exist, and nobody with a dimensional seed should be allowed to live while keeping one..” Wow. This is pretty bullshit and she should leave this country after gaining in levels and learning what she needs. Find a nation where dimensional magic is legal or at-least tolerated with regulations. “Perk that robbed her of her physical strength” You need to fix or elaborate this. Willing de-buffs like contracts are one thing. Forced stat debuffs without a counter make the entire System a massive joke. Want to make a [Mage] a [Baby] ? Reduce his Magic Stat to 1. Which technically should mean the Mage is close to death or his mana channels destroyed. “or vomit a huge amount of broken mana into some totally random area somewhere in-between dimensions” Nothing wrong in emitting broken mana in some random in-between dimensional area. “She was, in many ways, crippled in this society” Adults appear to be only 10-20 levels ahead of her in their highest-levelled class. She is not crippled just ignorant. “There was no need to form close relationships, because she would leave them behind soon” What ? Form relationships with whom ? Monsters ? She just came into the city yesterday for christ’s sake.

Loved the chapter, love the direction it's heading and your ideas for the future :)

acaswell

I meant to imply that she would consult with the Priest on how basic builds and such usually looked, since right now she only has a vague idea. My apologies if the way I worded the chapter was confusing - I went back and added a sentence or two to make it clearer.

Arkeus

I liked this chapter a lot, thanks. And yeah, she needs to think a bit before accepting her last main class.

acaswell

Nah, it's probably my fault. As a writer, most of my chapters go through 3-4 drafts, but even then, I don't always catch all of the little problems in each chapter. It happens, and I appreciate it when readers point out if they're confused. Sometimes it's because of information the readers don't have yet, but sometimes it's also just because I messed up XD.

D

Ah ok, sry for the confusion. Could also be that my english is just lacking. Sry, learnd it not in the formal way but with a dictionary (also years have gone since then so i think i got quite good at it, it isnt just the same as others who learnd it from a teacher), so its absolutly possible that its my understandings- and not your writings fault. :)

acaswell

Hmm. I think the way I worded it in the chapter was slightly confusing. I don't intend to imply that she's going to totally throw away her knowledge from Earth - just that she is accepting it is fundamentally lacking elements of the universe which obviously exist (magic, mana, possibly the System) and therefore she needs to accept she doesn't understand those elements of reality at all and learn from people who do. I reworded it to hopefully make it a bit less confusing.

D

I think it was well written and has gone in the right direction about her abandon wrong believes. But i think she also jumped - again - to fast to a conclusion, thinking that maybe most of her old knowledge was wrong. If previous rules dont apply to a new situation/world, then you should first find out the reason for the difference. She is, after all, in a nother dimension and as such, that world dosnt have to follow the same rules as the other. Only with access to both worlds she could make significant research into the question of wrong understood rules in her previous world.

thkiw

yes. I don't feel like it's a good idea to share about her class. and I also find it weird she even hesitates. it's not like she hesitated with the scholar class. she considered herself a scholar, so she took the class. it's less about benefits or whatever. she considers herself a scientist, so it's also obvious she should take that class. I don't know about getting 3 scholar classes though. she should probably get another magic one.

Null

MORE!!!!!!

Null

I would like her to not share the class and only ask for all scholar classes there are and then ask for the 5 classes that conform to her reality.... sure she may not have idea what mana is but she can advance in what her home world have since her new world don't have such perspective in a world where mana it's inexistent.

thkiw

I liked it. I personally don't like books where the main character is beaten around by everyone because of their weakness or inability to comprehend the circumstances around them, like 'the wandering inn' or 'calamity of a reborn witch'. even if they are well written. where everyone is more powerful and knowledgeable to the point the mc suffers a lot. I guess that a world that has mana, and magic, would evolve in a very different way compared to ours. which is why I found is strange that they are depicted both as evolved and backwards at the same time. in a world with magic there's simply no need for limitless skyscrapers (because of spatial enhancements) or powerful machines (because of individual strength). and automated industry is also somewhat redundant. however... I don't think that means the level of knowledge should be much less... but in a system where people are rarely educated, and there's no world wide internet, it's difficult to have the same level of common knowledge as ours, given the same access. so it's not like she has no benefit. it's weird for a farmer who spends most of his life working and doing one thing without a potential for career advancement to know much about advanced germ theory or human biology. but it doesn't mean there wouldn't be people in villages who don't. like village healers or witches or whatever. so... I wouldn't exactly exclude what she has, but I don't think it's too overpowered. I personally wouldn't like a story where the mc is completely clueless, and has to rely on everyone else to learn anything or make her own decisions. where everyone is very much more knowledgeable and better than her. just because she should learn from others more doesn't mean she shouldn't rely on herself in the end and make her own decisions. asking someone whether or not to take a certain class is kinda like that. waiting for someone else to make her own decisions. 'I better ask someone who really knows what they are doing to tell me'. like that. while asking someone for input, about classes in general or which ones are better is something else. in the end it's her own decision whether or not to do whatever she wants, I think.

Thorlol

Good chapter imo. I also agree with your opinion that most Isekai MC's think that they are above the people in their new world or think they are somehow in any way superior just because they come from earth. You could call it dimensional racism :S But I disagree with Alice's belief that her knowledge is useless or not applicable. If I understood Illa correctly, a mage without sufficient knowledge why something happens emits more broken mana and also uses more mana for what they want to do and basicially just force their will on reality. But Alice has the scientific knowledge and mindset to get ahead. (I hope :P )

Flogoyog

I think your approach is interesting but you will have to be very carefull from this point on to actually adress the flaws in Alice's thinking. If you keep givin her the idiot ball after this personal revelation the story will get annoying fast. Good luck for the rest, the story has been great so far.

Lictor Magnus

I appreciate the approach you are trying to take. Just because they may not be at the same technological level doesn't mean their culture, beliefs, and understanding of the world is any less valid.
