William Waggoner

I thoroughly enjoy the points describing her though process. I’m really analytical and it’s always a nice learning experience observing how people come to their own conclusions about things. Long story short I also enjoy these info dumps especially the research and experiments.

They have some kind of brain damage let's hope this one doesn't take that rute?

Rip Woodham

I really, really hope this isn't going to lead to her being leashed or abused. I hate when other stories have the MC get to civilization only for that to happen. I don't understand why authors think that's a good idea and I keep seeing it. The reaction is not positive. I've dropped multiple other stories for it. I thought this one was going so well.

MadGod

Just here to point it out, but there are people (like me) who enjoy world-building more than the actual story and don't just not mind the infodumps, but actually like them. Not every novel has to be story-driven and packed full of action. I mean the story has 'scientist' in the title and a protagonist obsessed with research, I came here hoping to read through a lot of "boring" info and experiments.

It wasn't too bad, just enough to feel a bit heavy and I thought to mention that since as I stated above its really tempting to do in these scenarios. It probably wasn't helped any by the fact that I'm terrible at visualizing geography and so had to struggle with that at the same time. One thing that comes to mind that might help would be reversing the order of her realization. Explain that she is stuck and then expound apon how each area of her surroundings applies to that. Knowing how something is relevant beforehand usually helps me pay more attention and focus, but that may just be me. The map in the other post definitely helps as well.

Thanks! I didn't notice, but it's pretty exciting. My story seems to be, overall, doing better than I thought it would, which is pretty cool :).

acaswell

Strictly speaking, it says a lot more about how language skills work. It will be addressed more in the future, when she has some time to think.

That is, ultimately, why I ended up with the exposition chunk here even then I was trying pretty hard to find a way to make it funnier or more interesting to read - most other 'info dump' chunks in the future will either be done with more interactions and broken up into smaller chunks, or looked at via flashback. Hopefully it wasn't too bad - I tried to shrink it where possible without cutting important information.

I liked this chapter quite a bit, but I have to admit that it came off a bit thick in the exposition department. Not horrible by any means, but you might want to think about what you could move around or mention in later chapters to break it up a bit. Its really tempting to dump world building exposition in places like this, where the mc is introduced to civilization after a long separation. Its especially tempting because it makes sense from the mc's point of view. In that situation anyone would want as much info as soon as possible so they could make informed decisions. Its usually much nicer and flows better to do callbacks to having learned info when it becomes relevant later on in the story. I'm not sure how well that particular style would work here tho considering alot of the exposition is relevant to her realization that she is stuck in an unfortunate political and geographical area.

Kapelteta

I'm assuming that's not thier actual name, but just the nickname that she uses in place of the translation. Alot of authors get leery of changing the name of someone/thing after it has been established in story. Even if it is just a nickname, it can confuse and/or annoy readers to change it later. One thing that could be done is adding a line about her finding out the real name but then thinking that she prefers her nickname for them. That is up to acaswell if they want to take the time to add that or not. It would help with fleshing out the world and pretty much just add "flavor" to the story, but I wouldn't want it at the cost of throwing off the authors groove of writing as editing can sometimes do.

MadGod

Eh? Spidercrabs? Really? I thought that was a temporary term until she finds out their real name.

Lictor Magnus

Congrats on hitting number 1 on trending btw!

Lictor Magnus

At least me know the justice system isn't nice. If a guard tells you to do something you don't even get to ask why.

Tetsuki

That, perhaps that book isn't common knowledge, or they found out she is a mage. Could also be both.

Joseph

Ack a cliff lol

thkiw

it's about that book isn't it?
