Finally fixed all of these issues. Good grief, that was a surprisingly time consuming treasure hunt, even with ctrl-F. It's done though. Thanks for the help XD

Silerus

Yeah, that makes sense. Still, thanks for the answer, I love those kinds of little worldbuilding tidbits. Now you have me wondering whether all normal classes have a 0.5 Tier class before them. Is there an [Apprentice Scholar] for example? :P

acaswell

I appreciate the sentiment. I'm also hoping that I've gotten better as a writer as time passes, and I try to learn from the mistakes of the early parts of Budding Scientist and use those as fuel to learn more about writing as a whole. It's rough and doesn't always go as planned, but I'm glad some people also think I'm getting better :)

As far as anyone in this world knows, Tier 3 classes don't exist. There are a very, VERY small number of Immortals above level 100 in Tier 2 classes, but they haven't stated whether they got a tier 3 class... Though, in all honesty, I do think Tier 3 classes would exist if people got far enough. However, it takes level 25 to go from a student class to a 'normal' class, and then you need to get to level 100 before your next class evolution. I marked the hypothetical Tier 3 classes as probably existing somewhere around level 200, but it's a piece of worldbuilding I obviously don't use much, so it's more of a 'I think it probably does exist in the worldbuilding, but it's lacking some specific details because there's no use for the information in the story.' If that makes sense.

Silerus

No problem, happy to help! And yeah, I get it, the webnovel format makes it VERY easy to make mistakes, so I always try to point them out and help out :)

Silerus

This definitely cleared things up for me, thanks! Last question. Is it possible, in theory, disregarding how insanely challenging that would be and how long it would take, to get to level 100 of a Tier 2 class and evolve it into a Tier 3 class? Or do the Tier 3 classes just don't exist?

I can neither confirm nor deny Natasha's hobby of carrying her husband's corpse around XD.

Thanks for the Natasha bit, In the first draft of the chapter her moved five years ago before dying. Then I decided to make his death a bit more recent. Clearly, I missed a sentence while cleaning up the old versions of the conversation. Oops! Allira should probably be around 90 now, yeah. That would definitely make more sense. I was thinking '70 years ago' as her general timeline for how long she has been an immortal, and mixed that up with her birth date when i was writing the chapter. As for Safety Analysis, at least in my Author's notes I don't have a cooldown listed at all, which is why Alice throws it around frequently. If I added a cooldown to the Perk, I need to delete that and make it line up with my author's notes version, since that's the one I tend to use while writing. As for {Adrenaline Rush}, you right XD. I'll drop that from her fight against Ethan with the Budding Scientist update this Friday, although it'll chance her results a bit, obviously. Thank you for the help catching those inconsistencies - with a webnovel, it's really easy to miss smaller details when you're trying to push everything along story-wise, and while I try to make sure everything is consistent and ensure that the big details about reveals and stuff later in the story line up, sometimes I miss smaller ones. I appreciate the help!

In answer to the first question, this will be discussed later in the book, but it's harder than going to level 125 would theoretically be. XP costs go up a lot after level 100, which is why Immortals tend to softcap on levels even if they keep working to get new Perks. They still level up, but the speed is really slow, putting a small ceiling on their abilities and making sure that Immortals don't ever do something like punch a country out of existence. I estimate that Xp costs increase by a couple times every 25 levels, in addition to the slight cost increases every level, for context, thus requiring around 1100% XP growth boost to keep up with levelling speeds once you get to a tier 2 class. Assuming you aren't too old by the time you reach that point, your aging speed gets super low and so it becomes possible to reach Immortality, even if it's a bit difficult, because you have time to get there. Second question: Yes. It's one of the reasons people like picking up student classes when they can, although the other reason is because XP costs go up a lot after level 50 and student classes don't add to XP costs for their 'full fledged' versions. So you get an extra five Perks to work with before you softcap. Third: The Achievement doesn't advance. Instead, you might get a new Achievement entirely that stacks with the old Achievement. Those get a bit more specific to the Achievement, of course.

I intend to publish it as a book EVENTUALLY, but probably after I finish Alice's story. I personally like stories to focus more on the main character, although a few side stories here and there might be called for. I do worry about pacing sometimes, because we're a bit farther behind my plotline than I thought I would be (I originally thought the story might be finished at around chapter 100, and that's very obviously a totally wrong estimate. We're nowhere near the end yet XD).

I won't rule out the idea of making another story in this world, but I was more inspired to create Markets and Multiverses when I was thinking about what I wanted to write. I had an idea about a really interesting city I wanted to create, which ended up getting a variety of unique traits, and when I thought about it I knew I wanted to create a story with it as a setpiece. The city is centered around the idea of souls and such, something that isn't confirmed to exist in Alice's universe, so I needed a new setting/story to match it. Then I thought of a character I wanted to write a story about, combined the ideas, and built a story and universe around it. Hopefully people end up liking it! :D

Seems like Natasha is keeping her husband's corpse in the closet.

Silerus

Just finished my reread and I've noticed another small problem. Cooldowns of some Perks are disregarded sometimes. [Adrenaline Rush] has been used in chapter 90, when Alice was fighting with the Society's Organic Mage, than 2 days later against Ethan, even though it has a week-long cooldown. I think this is the only time that something like this happened, but I'm not sure. [Satefy Analysis] is sometimes used 10 times in a row, even though it has a 1 day cooldown per use. Given how many times this has happened over the course of the story, maybe just edit that cooldown to nothing? I'm pretty sure the cooldown of this Perk has been disregareded since the moment Alice picked it up. Here's the full description of this [Satefy Analysis] Perk: Allows you to analyze, with high accuracy, whether an experiment would have harmful or potentially harmful effects on you, or any other participants in an experiment. More detailed results can be acquired from this perk at the cost of greater mental strain. Perk may only be used once per day. (Note: In order for this Perk to operate, you must already know what the experiment is and target a specific participant.) Edit: Some other, minor problems: 1. Natasha - husband's death and moving to Illvaria (time discrepancy) There are two sentences in chapter 83 that seem to contradict themselves. Quote nr. 1: - Chapter 83 "I was born in Eldren, but my husband and I moved here two years ago" Quote nr. 2: - Chapter 83 "My husband died about three years ago in a construction accident" 2. Allira's age I'm pretty sure Allira is either too young, or the previouus war should have happened earlier than stated. Quote nr. 1: - Chapter 16 "Currently, Illvaria was trying to recolonize the Southern Region of the country, which had been uninhabited due to the aftermath of a war with the Sigmusi Empire about 70 years ago." Quote nr. 2: - Chapter 46 "However, she reached Immortality during the last war with the Sigmusi Empire – she was one of the original inhabitants of the Illvarian South, before it was razed to the ground by the Sigmusi and swallowed by monsters and wilderness." Quote nr. 3: - Chapter 56 "She was originally a [Bard] that lived in Southern Illvaria, before it was razed to the ground by the Sigmusi. She was present during the war with the Sigmusi several decades ago, actually – it was when she became an Immortal." (...) "She’s around seventy right now." It just doesn't make sense for the war to have happened 70 years ago and for her to be 70 at the same time, all while becoming an Immortal at the same time. Maybe she should be around 80 or something?

I really love the plot of a budding scientist. Very innovative take on the fantasy genre. Your writing has improved over the years to be smoother.

Joseph

Look forward to the new story, it sounds interesting.

This chapter might not be the best place for this, but I've got three questions, and I'm afraid I will forget them if I don't ask now. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. How do the experience requirements change after going from a Tier 1 Class to a Tier 2? Are the first 25 levels as easy as in a Tier 1 Class, or is it more like getting to level 125? And if the exp requirements do get so much harder, how does that work with Tier 0.5 Classes like [Student of Kinetic Magic]? Would that mean that getting to level 50 in a Tier 1 Class, after going through a Tier 0.5 Class, is as hard as getting to level 75 is something like [Survivor] that doesn't have a Student Class before it? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Are [Student] Tier 0.5 Classes and Tier 1 Classes like [Kinetic Manabinder] considered as one for the sake of Perk Fusion after level 50? So, at level 50, Alice would have 15 available Perks to fuse? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Do some Achievements have multiple stages even without the roman numerals like "IV"? A couple of examples: [Capable Enchanter] is granted after producing 150 enchanted items. Is there a better version of this after making 1500 of them or something? [Murderer] mentions killing a human being - singular. Is there a [Mass-Murderer] upgrade to it? [Basic-Training] is granted after getting all stats to 100. Will there be an upgrade to it at 150, then 200, and so on? [Bookworm] requires one to read 50 books in a year. Is there a [Bookwork 2] for reading 500 in the same period? [Seed Creator] mentions in its description that the seed made without the system's help is inferior to one made with its assistance. Would making, by oneself, a better seed that possible with system help result to an upgrade to it? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know it's a lot but those questions have been bugging me for a bit now.

I am curious, do you plan to publish this story as a book? Also, I would very much like some side stories. Perhaps Illa's quest to build a frontier town could be interesting. I like that Alice is thinking of contacting her again. There is also Cecilia. Or maybe another traveler? Someone more adventuring oriented? Anyway, the world you created has so much possibility, I can't stop myself from imagining :-D

Apoca

But she turned down multiple of them. I think she would be past 1000% if she accepted them. I'm not saying it was the wrong choice. Just that Sujia would disapprove.

Silerus

I've found another small error in the previous chapters. Imma leave it here, because I'm not sure where else to post it. It's about Alice's mana regeneration. There's this passage in chapter 89: "Her current mana regeneration rate was 2.5% of her maximum capacity ever hour, meaning she needed 40 hours to completely recharge." And this: "This Perk would just double her mana regeneration to 5%," Each actual regeneration is 5.8% per hour with [Delve into the Arcane]: 1. [Baptized by Broken Mana] = 15% = 2 * 0.15 = 0.3 2. [Enhanced Regeneration] = 20% = 2 * 0.20 = 0.4 3. [Faster Mana Regeneration] = 10% = 2 * 0.10 = 0.2 Total = 2 + 0.3 + 0.4 + 0.2 = 2.9 4. [Delve into the Arcane] = 2.9 * 2 = 5.8 I think you forgot about the [Faster Mana Regeneration] Perk and thought that [Enhanced Regeneration] only gives 10%. There was a few mistakes here and there with the [Enhanced Regeneration] throughout the story - for example, in chapter 22, Illa calculates Alice's regeneration by multipling 2 only by 0.1, instead of 0.2 - so this number might've skipped your mind. Edit: Turns out, Alice's regeneration is actually 2.7% (5.4% after [Delve into the Arcane]). I did a more thorough check and found these three things: 1. Chapter 9 "Enhanced Regeneration Requirements: Explorer of Magic level 10 or higher Allows you to regenerate mana 20% faster for all seeds." 2. Chapter 34 - Author's Notes "It took longer than I expected – mostly because I realized there was an error in chapter 9 that was totally throwing me off. Whoops! Enhanced Regeneration is granting Alice a 10% improved Mana recovery rate, not 20% - that would be way too OP for a level 10 Perk. " 3. Chapter 34.5 "Enhanced Regeneration Requirements: Explorer of Magic level 10 or higher Allows you to regenerate mana 10% faster. (Author's note - in chapter 9, I appear to have made a typo and claimed that this was 20%. This was my mistake - that would be way too powerful for a level 10 Perk, even though it IS from Alice's special class. I will fix this next time I do a more comprehensive edit of the story.)" So, the mistake stayed in chapter 9 and threw my calculations off, but now it should be correct. 1. [Baptized by Broken Mana] = 15% = 2 * 0.15 = 0.3 2. [Enhanced Regeneration] = 10% = 2 * 0.10 = 0.2 3. [Faster Mana Regeneration] = 10% = 2 * 0.10 = 0.2 Total = 2 + 0.3 + 0.2 + 0.2 = 2.7 4. [Delve into the Arcane] = 2.7 * 2 = 5.4 So a total of 5.4% MP Regeneration per Hour.

Thank you for the chapter! :-) Honestly I was wondering if you would ever create another novel from the same world, but it seems you wanted something new entirely. Will check it out.

thkiw

yeah, she has enough good ones. just 100% is nothing to a 1000%. she is better improving her chances at actually succeeding at her goals.

Diego Rossi

Turning down "not so good" experience bonus perks isn't a bad move, if you go for the long game. It is better to pick the good perks than to pick a mediocre to bad perk because it gives a small experience bonus.

Diego Rossi

Seems interesting, I will give it a try. Thanks for the Budding Scentist chapter.

Apoca

If only Sujia would know how many exp bonus perk was turned down by Alice :D
