We tried with a mat, but we would end up cheating. :) For us, rolling the dice to determine the hit location is fun. It gives a sadistic taste of satisfaction when you're the attacker, while it's scary to roll it when you receive a hit.

1st question: Yes. 2nd question: Absolutely yes, it can be parried or dodged. A critical attack is potentially lethal but not unstoppable or undodgeable.

I think I will invest in a personalized felt pad for my dice tray for hit locations, it will make things go a little faster. Otherwise, we'd be rolling attack die, damage die, and hit location die all at the same time, which can be a little chaotic.

I have some confusion about a Critical Parry. It is resolved just like a regular parry, except a critical effect occurs when you roll a 12 on the parry roll? (Potentially damaging shield or weapon). Can a Critical Attack be dodged or parried?
