Urgh... Yeah... The banter which Im likes so much makes my ears bleed. It's the vocabulary being used along with "eighth grader syndrome" of Okarin. There's also Mayuri. She goes around calling herself "Mayushi". Like, really?? It's like calling yourself "Ms./Mrs. Mayu", except you don't put "shi" after the name in the real world, you put it after the family name. People do refer to each other by "name + shi" on the internet though. On quite specific sites. Like 2chan (guess it's 4chan nowadays). And that Daru guy? He speaks in 2chan slang from early 2000s. When talking in real life. The worst stereotypical otaku you can ever imagine. The very type of hated otaku. Otaku from the times the word was an insult. So you have a girl who is clearly extremely weak in the head, a college student with extreme case of the "eighth grader syndrome", and the walking stereotype of a gross otaku. Not to mention all the confusion which happens on screen. Swapping languages and having an audience unfamiliar with Japanese nuances works wonders, eh? A totally different impression. An enjoyable one. Unbelievable for me lol

Hiroshi Hamasakis direction is so interesting and unique, with the dreamy, and harsh blue skies, with everything looking bleached and drab from an intense sun.

I knew this show was going to be a perfect fit for this channel. I have listened to a rediculous amount of these anime discussions at this point and I bet the ones from this series will be some of the best and most interesting for sure.

A Toilet Duck

Always loved this pilot episode. The cinematography, the sound design, the vocal direction, phenomenal storytelling weaved through every facet of the episode. Glad to hear your early praise for the acting performances. Miyano Mamoru of course requires no introduction, that man just oozes charm in everything he does. We also have Hanazawa Kana as Mayuri, who's a goated actor in her own right, and Seki Tomokazu as Daru, who you may recognise as Panda from Jujutsu Kaisen (of which, I believe you've seen at least the first season, unless I'm misremembering?), but who for me personally is defined in my head as Gilgamesh from the Fate series. The way that these three sell the banter in this first episode goes such a long way to bringing the viewer in to the group, with credit also needing to go to the vocal directors who were able to build the scenes in such a masterful way. Can't wait for the next one!

I really do enjoy the "washed out" look of the anime as well. I don't know what it is but there is something it brings out this sort of eerie feeling that, to me, feels somewhat comforting? I get the same feeling when it comes to Chainsaw Man and Eva as well. Maybe in weird in that regard idk. But man with this and Severance coming up, it seems like you are going to have quite a bit of work on your hands when it comes to the length of these discussions.
