Clodsire WIP 1: Plush study and body base pattern

We hope that you enjoy your weekend. Today we're very happy because we'll show the first Clodsire WIPs!
First of all, we made the plush study, and gathered several 2D model references. This is one of those designs that look simple because they're soft and geometric shapes. But it's that simple design that makes it so important to get the perfect patterns.
We decided to start with the body pattern and then add the tail and legs.
When studying the design, we realised that Clodsire isn't completely flat. Like, it looks slightly up, not front, so in game it looks to the player. So we worked with that in mind.
For the body pattern we've used the same process as Pyukumuku. If you've watched the classes, you'll have seen that what we did was make the pattern like it was an oval first, and then "cut" the bottom part and add a flat base. And since Clodsire's body has the same concept, we're doing the same. We decided to make the base first and once we had a body we liked, make the color block.
First, we took several measurements, like length, width and height, and printed ball patterns for those different sizes. With these, we made the first pattern. As you see in the photos, it was a good base, but too long and thin.
Then we made a shorter version changing some curves too. This test already looked better, so we drew the base and made a third test with the base cut and some more changes. The third test looked really good already, but the front had some straight parts and from the side it was too round. We also saw that the base was too small, and the curves weren't perfect yet.
With all this, we made the fourth test. To solve the straight parts, we added some darts to the back seam. And like we said, we made the base bigger and fixed some curves.
And we fell in LOVE with this last test. It's identical to the 3D model and we love how all the shapes and curves look. We honestly didn't expect to get this shape so fast ;__;
With this perfect base, we will add the tail and color blocking in the next tests. We hope that it doesn't get too deformed with them ^^

Esperamos que disfrutéis mucho de vuestro fin de semana. Hoy venimos super contentas a traeros los primeros WIPs del peluche de Clodsire!
Para empezar, hicimos un estudio del diseño, así como una recopilación de las referencias del modelo 3D. Es uno de estos diseños que parecen simples, porque se componen de una figura muy geométrica y lisa. Pero precisamente por su sencillez es tan importante conseguir la forma perfecta en el patronaje.
Decidimos empezar por el patronaje del cuerpo, y luego añadir la cola y las patas.
Al mirar el diseño de cerca nos dimos cuenta que Clodsire no está completamente aplastado. Digamos que su eje mira levemente hacia arriba, para que in game esté mirando al jugador. Así que trabajamos con esto en cuenta.
Para el patrón de esta parte hemos usado el mismo proceso que con Pyukumku. Si mirasteis nuestras clases, ya habréis visto que lo que hicimos fue hacer primero el patrón como si fuera un óvalo y luego "cortarle" la parte de abajo y añadir una pieza plana para la base. Y como el concepto del cuerpo de Clodsire es el mismo, usamos el mismo método. Decidimos hacer primero la base y cuando tuviéramos una que nos gustase, hacer el color block.
Primero tomamos distintas medidas como el alto, el ancho y largo e imprimimos el patrón de esfera para esos distintos tamaños. Con eso hicimos el primer patrón. Como veis en las fotos era una buena base, pero era muy largo y delgado.
Luego hicimos una versión más corta y cambiando un poco los grosores. Y esta prueba ya quedó mejor así que le dibujamos la base e hicimos la tercera prueba con la base cortada y retocando un poco más. La tercera prueba se veía ya muy bien, pero de frente se veía algo recto en algunas zonas y demasiado redondo de lado. También vimos que la base era muy pequeña, y algunas curvas no estaban aún del todo bien.
Con todo esto, hicimos una cuarta prueba. Para solucionar que se viera recto, le añadimos unas pinzas en la espalda. Y como hemos comentado, le cambiamos la base y un poco la curva de los patrones.
Y esta última prueba nos ENAMORÓ. Es idéntico al modelo 3D y nos encanta como se ve toda la forma y curvas del peluche. La verdad es que no esperábamos conseguir esta similitud tan rápido ;__;
Con esta base ya perfecta, vamos a añadir la cola y el color blocking a las próximas pruebas. Esperamos que no deforme demasiado el patrón conseguido ^^
