Man got to rewatch this series again. The anime seems to not really cover the fact that this is like a month after the decree and a lot of these people went through competitions/tournaments in the capital to determine the best we see here. Our new prime Minister smoked everyone in law knowledge. The tournaments are used to compile lists of talented individuals and a lot will be hired. These just got the extra 1st place prize.

OMG, the song from our world that she sang is the second half of the anime opening of Slayers NEXT (aka Slayers season 2)!!! This is my first time watching the anime adaptation (I had only read the manga and the novels years ago).

This series to me defines sleeper Hit. I binge the first season when I started only wanting to watch the first episode. It feels more like a continuem than most others; ie I do not feel the breaks between episodes as much as I do in other series. I love how the character building is just so natural. For instance before that chick with a servant in this episode comes to town we already know how it plays out if or when she does. We see enough snipets of her reactions we are clued into the sort of person they are. Yet at the same time certain betrayals come out of nowhere because we lack an understanding of motive ahead of time.
