However, this season wouldn't have had a conclusive ending if this arc ended like it did in the manga. It would have felt like the anime season ended right in the middle of something. So they had to change it like this.

By the way, they changed the way this arc ends. Without spoiling, in the manga the next arc starts right away from a discussion the cosplay group had with Gojo and Marin. I'm not going to say what it is about, but Gojo becomes hyper focused and it leads to Marin not getting what she considers to be the right timing to confess.

I have heard that the reason for why this story is so short. Is because the editor tried to force in some drama into the story. But the manga author refused and decided to end the story instead
