This episode kind of reminds me of a sci-fi story, "Of Men and Spiders", in which two siblings are stranded on a planet. A spider-like extraterrestrial entity with a hive mind is also stranded and tries to get to know those two weird bipeds, ends up taking a liking of them and protects them against raiders.
