Ahh the rabbit hole that is GUP. In my opinion the two most anime animes are this and Azur lane (or Kancolle). One is girls driving tanks like sports cars as a sport, the other is girls who are warships. Nowhere else could come up with this level of insanity. And yes, the initial part is a future moment, the rest is a flashback.

Don't think too hard about it. In German, it literally means Girls and Tanks. Calling it a Panzer Tank is redundant. It's not a Tank Tank. And yes. It's a school sport. Some schools offer archery and volleyball, while others have "the art of operating a tank". It's a martial art, like Judo. One day, when I can afford it, I'll be requesting KanColle, unless you've already seen it. It's the logical next step. If this one is girls _in_ tanks, then the next is the physical manifestation of naval warships?
