#YT Avatars since the beginning of time actually can live in the society with family or loved ones. It's their choice when they are fully realised Avatars. It depends on situation around them mostly. In Aang case, Air Nomads can have love, "marriage" or family. But based on their culture, Air Nomads detached from world concerns like politics, social problems and even most of them towards things like family, careers, loved ones. When they grow up, for them is just not very important stuff mostly. Unlike spiritual growth, peace and freedom. And speaking of Avatar role, Avatar duty itself is to put world needs, above personal needs to keep balance in the world (In history few selfish Avatars way before Aang ignored that, for their selfish desires in critical times) So for Aang situation is double hard to live a normal life being Avatar. But he still can shape his personal life if he wants of course. Nobody can control the life of Avatar when he already realised 100% Avatar. It's up to him. Many Avatars didn't even had Guru, to help them with chakra and Avatar state. So for example with Aang, he don't have to let go forever his attachments, just learn to let them go.
