patreon devlog update 73: behind the scenes
🕑 Added 2022-03-10 23:00:00 +0000 UTCheyo peeps, another update on zap & andy this week! i started working on the backstage area of the big top, where the ringmaster is writing devil contracts to enrapture his audience and a particular prey he has set his eyes upon. So here's the hd background of this location:
and of course i started to animate the ringmaster writing said contracts. More on him on the next updates:
i also started designing the character for the final part of the circus. There'll be a big crowd attending to a specific show the ringmaster will host , and three of them are integral for the puzzles that will happen in this part of the game, so i decided to visualize them a bit. We have a buzzsaw demon, a ...""""kid""" and a stylish devil. The """"kid"""" will probably be discarded. We needed a slingshot for one of the puzzles, so the first thing that came in my mind was like this bart simpson-esque character with one. Only problem is we don't really want kids in hell or in the game so i tried to compromise by going for a damned soul dressing up as a kid to avoid the punishments of hell. In the end i think we came up with an alternate solution to this, but i thought the character was fun so i included him anyways.
also i came up with two solution for the buzzsaw demon's head. I personally like the "a" option, but i've received more positive feedback on the b option, what do you peeps think?

well seems you peeps prefer b as well! so that's the one i'm gonna use XD . I did like a because it looked dopey and less menacing , but it is hell ,and these demons are supposed to be a bit scary after all XD thank you all for your feedback!

Id like B better as what it is... but I think I'd like A more if it was angled higher in the front lower in the back...

The reason why I like B is because it looks like ultra stylized eyebrows to me, and I'm all for that. The idea of it is sort of supported by the buzzsaw beard too. I actually think the pretend kid soul is perfectly fine, but if you have an alternative you're already doing, then so be it.

Not sure exactly what about B constitutes cooler 🤔🤔 A feels cooler with the hat look. Both of them are supposed to give off the silhouette of a hat, but A just sells it better

I like B. Its more stylish and it makes more sense. I feel like if it was A the top part of the head would just slide off.

I like the dopiness of A, plus I could totally see a bit where the top of his head just pops right off. Both are good though!

I think B has a strong malevolent feeling to it, with some malicious intelligence-A has a very 'dumb henchman' kinda vibe, a bit dopier. So I guess it is which of the two you want to aim for more in characterisation?
