Of Sorcerers and Couples
🕑 Added 2024-06-22 19:16:16 +0000 UTCI'm sorry peeps, because I've been so unable to commit to anything resembling a "Project" I've been neglecting you. While all my 5$ patrons have access to my discord where they can see pieces as soon as they're finished- I've been worrying about posting anything here. Especially with my directionless behaviour lately.
Anyway, I've decided to do this little extra post. Explaining some of my lore tidbits or thought processes about ideas I've considered exploring.

The Sorcerer's Companions:
"It's funny how much perspective you can gain in an instant. Is it willful ignorance? Or youthful bravado that kept us so blind?" In a world of magic and monsters, conquerors and chaos. A group of companions swore an alliance of brotherhood with one another and formed a mercenary band. Their founding members being the enthusiastic and powerful Warrior, the merciful and protective Shaman, the cunning and vicious Assassin, and the mysterious and ambitious Sorcerer. Together, they wandered the land, lending their aid to whomever could pay them. They cared not for which side they joined, for the purpose of battle was insignificant compared to the chance of coin.
That is, until a line was crossed. One of the armies of the great kings that hired them, did not halt their soldiers even after the battle was won. The Mercenary Band realized at that moment, that their mercurial ways had brought them into service, of a vicious and merciless lord, a man who would seek to dominate all beneath his heel.
And they knew then, that they had unwittingly, helped pave the way for his ascension. United together, they set about a new campaign. Determined to prevent such an Overlord from taking control of the world.
Though little do they know... their own member, the Sorcerer, has formed a new ambition...

The Sorcerer's story is one that I've been toying with for a while now. And the blurb up there is what I've considered as the "backstory" or even "how the story begins." It takes obvious inspiration from things like Berserk or A Song of Ice and Fire. But, I dunno how I'd want to balance it emotionally. Because so far, it reads as a pretty standard fantasy war set up, with none of the luscious theming that I'm known for. So it's like- do I save that for the reveal? Or find ways of injecting more of it into the base story? Hmmm.... I dunno.

A Growing Romance:
This one has no blurbs. More, an emotional core. I've been reading some more kink and romance manga, including a really nostalgic one. And thinking- "Is there anything like this, but for our specific demographics?"
The basic core of the idea, is a pair of friends or acquaintances- who start to explore Expansion and Transformation together. In their setting it's something that's possible to do- but is seen, not as taboo, but as strange enough to be kept completely in private and away from prying eyes. The kind of thing that could ruin a reputation in certain company.
So it'd be an almost, "scenario of the week" structure- with entries exploring their developing feelings for one another. While they pursue the thrills and mechanics of different transformative past times.

The Producer
I think the Sorcerer story would function great as a slow burn, and maybe even function well around a corruption arc. We ride along with our protagonist and see him slide down the slippery moral slope from being the instrument of karmic justice to abusing his powers. The growing romance one would be fun to see a couple struggle with personal gratification/satisfaction vs societal acceptance. At what point do they say fuck it and fall into the waiting embrace of hedonism?
