And comparing Amerie to Beyoncé is diabolical. No shade, but they’re not in the same category at all to me. Beyoncé had so much more control, range and vocal, intricacy and dynamics even at the start of her solo career. And Keri Hilton was cute and had the attitude, but she’s more comparable to Rihanna at the time than Bey .

Remember when everyone talked about how much Taylor Swift couldn’t sing live 👀 now she’s one of the most successful female artists on the planet Earth. I’m just saying sometimes it’s not all about the vocal, but yeah homegirl was pitchy as hell in this, but at least she has the balls to sing live. Many of these new beloved artists don’t.

Also, Quincy jones said “A GREAT song can make a BAD singer sound GREAT, but a BAD song can make a Great singer sound terrible” this is a prime example of that. The songs were so good we were willing to ignore how pitchy and sometimes out of key she can be sometimes. It’s amazing what great song writing and production can do. It also makes you question, to the new girlies who CAN SING. Is the music that Good… cos I’ll take this over a lot of newer music.

I think the term you were looking for was “mezzo-soprano”. She’s definitely not a soprano per se, but definitely a mezzo-soprano, because “1 Thing” was HIGH for her to sing. She really should’ve dropped that key down.
